Apple pushing 17-inch MacBook Pro deliveries near March
Initially promised for the end of January, the unibody version of Apple's largest notebook is moving gradually towards a late February ship date or later for more recent buyers.
Readers tell AppleInsider that their orders for the redesigned 17-inch MacBook Pro, still officially listed as shipping within 2-3 weeks for prospective owners, are now creeping towards arrival dates four or more weeks after the purchase. In one example, a customer who just ordered his only slightly customized system on Wednesday now says his model won't leave assembly plants in China until February 26th, or nearly five weeks from when he pulled the trigger. The system isn't due to arrive until early March, or roughly two months after it was first announced at Macworld. Australian readers are also receiving ship date estimates between three to four weeks after they place their orders for stock versions, while choosing the anti-glare display immediately pushes any shipment to between four to six weeks later. Why the delays are slipping into Apple's system are unclear and may not be absolute. Readers are encouraged to submit reports of any delays for their own orders. A reader's delayed order for a 17-inch MacBook Pro Separately, others also report their copies of the Mac Box Set bundle for Mac OS X Leopard, iLife and iWork are slipping to a lesser degree. Apple maintains a January estimate even now but has started bumping orders to early February. In return, one reader notes that his order was upgraded to overnight shipping for free without notice from Apple. |

I see one oddity in the picture, the line with VGA adapter, it has N0 - N zero, not "No" or "NO". All the other lines say "No".

PCConnection told me mid-Feb. But I don't know if that's for the base models, or if it was specifically for my 2.93 model.

Mine still says "Feb 4"
I had mine ordered within 30 seconds of the store coming back up... Not that I expect that to matter much, but my Order Status still says "Ships: Feb 4" and "Delivers: Feb 9"

Its coming! Yay!
Ordered mine (in Australia) on the 11/1/08. Delivery now at 16/2/08. Almost five weeks!
Im just glad they made it and it is coming, thats the most important thing, for a while there it looked doubtful. Good thing is though, they don't charge you until it has actually left the factory. Perhaps they didn't expect such demand! (?) |

I really hate how Apple is always on pedestal, while people don't give a *** about other companies products being delivered on time. Maybe cuz Apple actually cares about a product and delivers it when its perfect.

Obama needs to warm up relations with Cuba so we can take advantage of that cheap communist peasant labor a little closer to home. Who can wait after an impulse buy?

I believe payments are only processed after the sale … so no money issues. So why would this be part of the investigation? Again, WE are to blame (at least a bit). EVERYONE here is sitting (albeit not very patiently) for the next NEW and EXCITING thing to come from Apple. They announce it, and now they are being investigated for it. Folks if this keeps up, Apple and others will only announce stuff AFTER it's been on sale for a few months. Skip |

"Ironic this comes the day after earnings. This is one of the many reasons that the SEC is invetigating Apple." What a crock of horsecrap, and you know it. There's no contract here, implied or expressed, concerning the actual shipping date of any product. Your posting-name should be "WinTrollTimer," for your opinions are clear in their intent and bias. I called Apple and was told that my order may either ship before February 9 or after. It seems that iLife'09 may be the hold up, since it is supposed to be pre-installed on the 17 MBP. The Apple Customer Service rep was kind enough to remove my shipping charge and place my shipment into expedited category (2-3 days).

Ship date is listed as 7-10 days now at the US Apple Store, with "standard" configuration and with "build to order" options.
![]() That's on the online store though. What the actual ship dates are best trended by the posts of fellow AppleInsider forum posters. It doesn't seem so much that there is a "line" per say to get a newly ordered unit. It's more that once the production line gets going, these things are just going to ship like crazy to everyone, regardless of order date. Still, the earlier you ordered, the more likely you get it early. Well, that's the standard assumption anyway. All that matters to each person with a pre-order is that they have this baby in there hands. Please post if you pre-ordered to let us know the actual shipping time frames. Cheers. |

Apple Web Site Delivery Time Shortened
FWIW, the Apple web site page for the 17 inch MBP has been updating with shortened shipping intervals over the past couple of weeks. Over night, the interval shortened from 2-3 weeks to 7-10 business days:
http://store.apple.com/us/browse/hom...ly/macbook_pro This would suggest that at least some configurations are moving forward. I just tried playing around with some of the options on the ordering page and note that if I select the anti-glare display, the shipping time changes from the 7-10 days to 2-3 weeks. No other options, including selecting iWork '09, resulted in a delay in shipping. So this would suggest that those who ordered the anti-glare option for the display are the ones most likely to experience delays in shipping. HTH. |

The real for the delay in shipments is this: Apple is experiencing tremendous problems with users of the new 15" MacBook Pro with external 30" displays using the new Mini-Display Port to DVI adapter. There is tremendous distortion and all sorts of problems plaguing users. The new 17" has the same mini-display port. Apple has not fixed the problem and I would bet money that's the reason for the delay- they want a fix before they release the 17" inch.

Any updates?
No changes in delivery times on the Apple web site over the past week. Still shows 7-10 business days, with the interval still increasing to 2-3 weeks if one selects the anti-glare option.
It would seem reasonable to presume that the recent withdrawal of the nVidia driver update may be delaying the deliveries, but just wondering if anyone has any updates on their quoted shipment/delivery dates. Are they staying stable or seeing further delays? BTW, I have queried our local Apple stores over the past several days, getting different folks, and they have no clue on when they may have units in the store, or whether or not they may have anything other than the base config in the store. At least that is what they are saying publicly... Thanks. Last edited by mschwartz; 02-02-2009 at 01:10 PM.. Reason: added apple store info. |

Shipping Date
I'm down here in New Zealand, ordered a 17" on the 9th of January. It has the 7200 rpm 320 GB drive as the only option, plus the DVI and VGA adapters and a remote.
Originally the ship date was the 11th of Feb, delivery the 17th. As of this morning (Thursday) it says shipping on the 19th with no delivery date. I'm somewhat peeved by this all - originally it was 2-3 weeks on the ordering page - that's 3 weeks before mine will even SHIP. ![]() Edit: I now see that the order page on the store has these shipping in "3-4 weeks" in NZ. Is this the same elsewhere? I suppose at least my pre-order makes it only 2 weeks away for me, not 3-4... Last edited by ashleyeaster; 02-04-2009 at 05:15 PM.. |
