Free PayPal Money? Answer Questions!
I'm signing up, and if one of you out there with a PayPal account "refers" me, I understand you get some cash. So, if you answer my questions well, I'll put you in my "referred by" field on the sign up form! Be sure to tell me what to put in there.
Alright, I want to sign up for the basic Personal Account. I go to their site, and they say that you send and recieve money for free, but there is a fee of 2.9% + 30¢ for a "Standard" account and a $3.20 charge on a $100 payment. What are these fees for exactly? PayPal doesn't really have a good page on how they charge for accounts... Thanks!

Well, PayPal has to stay afloat somehow. Dot-coms aren't profitable by nature; they need at least small cashflow like this. |

G4Dude: No answers, no money.
StarfleetX: I've got what you're saying, but I'm wondering what exactly the 2.9% charge is on, i.e. is it a monthly rate of how much is in my account or what?

PayPal has been losing money on the consumer end of its business. Credit Card transaction fees have been biting it in the ass bigtime. So it's started to charge them to you. That's what you're paying for.

Every time you give your cc to a retailer to charge something to it, they have to pay a percentage of it to the cc companies. It's not even close to free. Last time I checked, the dell accessory store is selling 4c screws (after a 1c instant rebate) with free shipping. You even get to split up the charge onto 2 credit cards! Good to know anytime you feel like "screwing" Stevie Dell.

It's a 2.9% fee based on the amount of money transferred. A one time deal.
If you're selling on eBay, just make it clear that the buyer can use PayPal if they wish, but they will either have to split this fee with you, or pay the whole fee - whatever you'd like to do. I just take it and eat the fee for inexpensive items, but if it's a computer, I get the buyer to pay. Some people feel it's worth it because they have their credit card's fraud protection to fall back on if they get screwed out of the product. I used that on my MasterCard this year when I got taken for $1200 US on an iBook. My crooked seller even made it to TechTV... heh heh... I'm going to write the prick in jail. (me and about 200 other people he took for a ride) |

I get it...and do you basically "deposit" money from your credit card into your PayPal account, or does PayPal just suck some money up from your credit card on a need-to-use basis?
Thanks murbot.

Yes, I do think you can put money into your PayPal account. I usually just do it with my credit card though, have any purchases I do through PayPal just go through the cc. It's billed that amount exactly.
When someone pays me with PayPal, I log in and "withdraw" that money, by having them transfer it to my bank account, which is on file with them. Supposed to take up to 4 business days, but it's usually done in 2. |

I think I need to fill out some more forms before you actually get credited, but I'll probably get that done tonight...maybe not though, as I have a lot of studying to do for exams this week. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
I'm trying to get this set up so I can sell my ASD 17" on Agora without the geeks turning up their noses at my lack of electronic payment 1337ness. Having no Heatware or Beerology references doesn't help. Anyone interested? Great condition...I'm looking for ~200 plus shipping. But I'm negotiable. ![]()

Tomorrow I'm gonna put my Voodoo 2 card on ebay. Maybe it'll fetch me $20 or so.

Some day you're going to get punched in the face for doing dumb shit like this.
I'm no square but isn't that counter-indicated by my operations manual?

Free PayPal Money? Answer Questions!
I have signed up for a Pay Pal account, However, I do not have a credit card or bank account. So is there anyway someone can send me money through PayPal without me having to have a bank account or credit card. I’m not going to send money, I just want to receive it.I Looked on yahoo answers and someone said"If you don't have a bank account you can always sign up for free with paypal and request a check (it costs $1.50 to have a check mailed) but it's better than nothing."Is that true? And if so, how will I pay PAY PAL the dollar and 50thy cents I owe them?
