Broadband ISP Recommendations Wanted

I'm relocating to either Anchorage, AK or San Jose, CA after three weeks to five weeks. You'd think I'd know which by now...anyway I've gotten spoiled to my DSL fixed I.P. connection. I want no less than the 256Kbps I've got now. I know Sprint satellite is in San Jose but not sure they're taking new customers. I know nothing about Anchorage. So I'm looking for recommendations in either city. Thanks!

I have Speakeasy and I really like them. I don't know whether they serve AK or not but they're a nationwide ISP.

I have a AT&T Cable modem and consistently get download speeds from 150K to 450K+ (I can only achieved that speed on MP3.com). I don't know DSL download speeds, but your 256K of bandwidth is nothing from my 1,494.5 Kbps. (Tested 10/7/02 at 6:00PM on <a href="http://www.knowledgenet.com/test/speedtest.html" target="_blank">Knowledgenet.com</a>) Can't say I had many problems with the service, but they keep raising the price on me. You will probably get a intro price that will make me drool.

What ticks me off it a project by Pac Bell called "Fiber to home". There is a Terabitfiber optic cable 1.5 FEET from my curb! They just never turned it on. I want some of that!

Thanks! Fiber to home eh? Has it come to Campbell/West San Jose by any chance? PacBell was my first ISP about seven to eight years ago. I read one of the cons about cable is bandwidth can drop in a bad way when a lot of people connect. Though maybe it has to be in the same neighborhood. Does that sound familiar?

Take a look at dslreports.com. Much better forums for this kind of info than AI.

I too have speakeasy and have had no problems with service in NYC.

Well, yes it is possible. However, I've had a cable modem for more than 2 years, and it has only happened 3 times. It returnes to normal a half hour later.
