Reason for small hardware updates-->next year is hw year?
Maybe reason for small hardware updates are, that Apple has put all the energy for making OS X ready like what Linux is now. Look where OS X is now and how many years it has been on market.Still OS X isn't ready and some things are still slow, but direction has been good/fast.
I am sure, that during the next year Apple will put more power into hardware development and we will see a lot more faster/better hardware. As Steve has said: "Will have options during the next year." |

no...
the reason for small hardware updates is that that's what is the norm. Every update people bitch about "oh this is just a small update to hold us over until the 'big one'". Wake up people. Small hardware updates are the routine... the "big one" is by far the exception. |

Additionally Apple couldn't afford to be holding back on hardware if they had it, that's their way to make sales. When they have it it will be out - I don't think next year will be any more special than the past year (new iMac, remodelled G4s, brand new product - Xserve...). So next year you might get speed-bumped iMacs, new PowerBooks, new pro towers with a new processor - very late in 2003 - and the processor to go in the Xserve too - though perhaps 3-6 months after the towers, so putting that into 2004). Which is effectively no different to 2002.

I am optimistic Apple will come out with more significant hardware updates next year. Especially if they switch to IBM or Motorola suddenly come out with a faster processor.
We all know that mhz dun matter that much.... but Apple by now must realise that it matters to switchers. Ignore that, and they are doomed. So, lets hope Apple wakes up next year.

Didn't Steve Jobs say that next year, a lot of things they are doing as well as things that don't make sense to most of us now are going to finally come together next year?

Wow, somthing just hit me reading this thread. AMD is killing Apple!!! Before the Athlon, Intel would realese a couple of speed bumps a year. Like Apple still dose today. But then the PC world went from 600MHz to 1GHz in six months. While Mot went from 500 to 450, back to 500. I think if AMD was still a "value CPU", Apple and Intel would at least be close in performance.
Resistance is futile when electrons are excited.

Moreover, I don't think OS X is lacking in comparison to Linux in any possible way; to the contrary, OS X is superior in many ways. Most concur with the assertion that Apple's poor progress in hardware has been due to Motorola. It definitely cannot be blamed on OS X.

Just trying to remind people that Apple did release Power Macs with every feature people have been screaming for over the past year except 2GHz G4s ... and yet they claim this isn't a hardware year ... Whatever, its never enough, there is always something to complain about.

"never"). Bye, RazzFazz |

My new Dual PM is definitly worth it this year.
But this certainly wasn't a Powerbook year. Apple has slipped behind some Intel laptops and it may not be until next year before they catch up. ![]()

Well, next year came pretty fast.
A 1 GHz Superdrive Powerbook will be in my hands come Saturday morning. That is if the New KoP store will have any for its grand opening. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

If you do find one, can you buy one for me? There are no Apple stores in Canada. |
