Can A Wireless Router Work Independently?

This may be a dumb question, but do I need a a main computer hooked up to a wireless router? I was wondering if I can just have my Internet cable cable plugged into a wireless router and then have it provide access to two mobile notebooks. Essentially, I want to avoid having a base computer. Is this possible? Does such a wireless router exist?

Here is a diagram of what I hope is possible:

WIRELESS ROUTER (no base computer) -----> TWO NOTEBOOKS

Thanks for your help :o)

Yes of course. You're going to want a hardwire to configure it but other than that the wireless router handles the rest.

You do not need a main computer. The wireless router will act like a computer to assign and manage your network. Both your wireless laptops will see each other.

EDIT: Yea, what Scott said too...

thanks for help. I'm replacing my desktop with another notebook and want each notebook to remain mobile without the use of a hardline. Again, thanks for your help.
