HyperTransport
With all of these space/future references on Apple's home page, I'm thinking that Apple will be releasing the first computers to use the HyperTransport standard announced this past summer.
Just a thought. |

Sounds good.
SdC
My signature irritates people. However, my cat can still jump a watermelon, and the Apollo is the next chip coming to the Powermac line. Although, at this point, I'd believe that Cyrix is the next chip in the Powermac. It was all a desperate ruse to control the excessive desire for the G5 so that people wouldn't automatically jump to disappointment at 'only' getting Apollo. However, if we aren't even getting Apollo, then something is rotten in the state of Denmark--err, Motorola. I really do believe that the G5 (which I still believe is a 2003 chip) is the last Motorola product we'll see in Apples. However, all the other choices (IBM. AMD, Intel, whoever else) have significant problems as well, and frankly, it doesn't look good. The good news is that, despite the constant whinging and wailing around here, Apple products are still fast as shit, and I don't really worry about them dying any time soon because of percieved value. Frankly, I think the platform as a whole would be better off without some of the Tinkerbells and prayer-freaks that exist at AI, and well, the less said, the better. In conclusion, the G5 still isn't coming soon, and I'm sorry if I mislead anyone with my opinions (which I never claimed to be fact). Have fun over here. Odds are, I'll be back, but what the hey, there's work to be done, and I really should spend less time arguing with you all, and more time doing the stuff I need to do. Peace out! -SdC (PS - I have bookmarked the iPod bet thread, and intend to lurk on in it until that issue is resolved.)

Makes a lot of sense. No "personal computer" has gone there before, the overall speed increase of the entire system will probably blow you away and I haven't heard many rumor sites talking about hypertransport actually being included in the new macs.
Be quiet, Brain, or I'll stab you with a Q-tip

nForce is shipping in the US too and it's barely faster than traditional busses. It only connects the northbridge and southbridge. Not CPU and northbridge. Performance increases on the PC world have been mediocre at best.
I'm no square but isn't that counter-indicated by my operations manual?
