Viiv Media Server

Anyone remember Intel's Viiv? Thoughts on an Intel Viiv-powered Media Server "Cube"?

viiv is nothing special which is why it's so forgettable. I think Apple will roll their own Media Centre based off of System on a chip designs.

But who's making the chip? DreamBox uses PPC. I would think Apple would not go back. Especially now.

Ask Apple to use the Skulltrail SLI motherboard as a BTO option for the next Mac Pro's.

You can cover most multimedia needs via a Broadcom BCM7411 chip that's used in Blu-Ray and HD DVD players. You still need a CPU of some sort.

I am betting on the Sigma SMP8634, although it seems perpetually delayed. And people who are hoping for a $150 AirPort Express HD will probably be mightily disappointed

I'm pretty sure viiv was a windows technology only.

Besides it was ultimately just a flashly marketing name, anyone could make a computer that does viiv stuff they wanted to.

It wasn't a Windows technology, but it was a marketing name applied to groups of chips that assure a certain set of minimum capabilities for media center / home theater computers.

edit: it turns out a spammer had resurrected this thread today and I didn't notice the original date stamps. I nuked him/her and now all is well, except for this post responding to a three year old statement.

Yeah whatsup with Necrobumping spam bots? I've noticed this trend now ..hiding their porn/spam in otherwise legit threads.

This was a blast from the past...2009 and Viiv is still as murky a marketing scheme as it was in 2006
