No, youtibe for iphone will not use flash. Rememeber they are reencoding yourubt in H.264 for AppleTV. iphone will use this too. Much more efficient for battery life since the H.264 decode is on hardware, while flash would have to use main CPU.

Flash will come. After all, youtube.com uses Flash.

BTW hey submitter, what's with the reverse format in your headline?
That headline should read "Source: Apple planning host of iphone updates..." not the way you have it. or "Apple planning host of iphone updates, says Source" Just putting in my 2 cents. |

Who wants to wait ages for umpteen flash adverts to load on a website? Yet it would be nice to play some of the Flash games and browse some of the Flash websites (although I suspect that they will work horribly). |

Now if you could only set up multiple portfolios and flip through them like you do with multiple weather forecasts, the Stocks applet would be top-notch for me. I'd love to have a panel for each of my investment groups.

This is how they beat Microsoft with the iPod. Screw Plays for Sure. Screw Windows Media. MP3 and AAC are both open standards that Microsoft can't control. So screw Flash and screw Exchange. If any device ever had the potential to end the Exchange monopoly, it would be the iPhone I'm using to type this. |

I'm sure you meant to say every month, if you didn't then I disagree with your time framing. Every week just wouldn't make much sense.

It's so ironic that people are calling anything that doesn't use Microsoft Exchange insecure. Are we all forgetting that Microsoft Outlook, connected to an Exchange server, is how 90% of the world's computer viruses are spread?

K2director -
My activation took almost 24 hours try resetting your iphone. press the sleep wake button and the home button at the same time hold them till it resets/shuts down. also try pulling out of the docking cradle and then resetting it and placing it back in the cradle. I'm not sure if those things helped my activation or it was just a coincident.... but having to wait soo long is unacceptable...... unbelievable. good luck.... I know the feeling and sux. i can tell you that now that my phone finally works it's soo sweet. the long wait and patience is worth the wait..... but I want answers as to WHY/what went wrong. can't wait for updates to the iphone, I love everything so far. |

Outlook and Exchange insecure.
Actually you don't need Exchange to be insecure. Just using Outlook on a Windows computer and I think it more like 99% of viruses. Outlook should be banned.

Any idea if voice dialing will be added in a software update? That is one lacking feature this phone desperately needs! I've become accustomed to using voice dialing with my Bluetooth earpiece while driving. Last edited by southerndoc; 07-01-2007 at 09:02 PM.. |

Ain't it funny how countries we "liberate" promptly descend into crime and civil war-Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. ?
Countries the "violent Islamists" subjugate end up peaceful, crime-free, and self-sustaining-Somalia,Afghanistan pre-U.S. ? |

No Voice Dial? Ummmm.... Yeah....
Quote:
In AT&T's Employee Training Manual (PDF Link) they mention: Features available post activation via Customer Care or OLAM:BTW, this thing has some pretty useful info in it for users, even if it was designed for sales staff and pre-iDay. [Edit]: Ok. I found the monthly rates (these are with my current plan which uses a basic no-frills LG phone... Don't know it it's any different with iPhone): Now everyone can change their bitch-fest (which I will join right along with) to how it will cost them an additional 5 bucks a month for voice dial. Probably another "demand" from AT&T... "You (Apple) demand this and that from us??? Well, we then demand that we collect $ for these services..." To be able to browse your home Mac through the internet would be great on the iPhone. |

So twist the law around to suite your desires? I live here in california "home of people" with cellphones.
For your freaking information the LAW NEVER EVER has covered dialing the number with your hands, NOR will it ever. The law in lame speak says "That you will be required to NOT have your handset to your ear or be texting on it. Quote:

Sorenson is weirdly still used by some people and there's also Apple Pixlet, Quicktime can wrap around both open and proprietary codecs. You can wrap a DivX even with a quicktime wrapper. Both aren't particularly widespread with most people using MPEG derived standards but Quicktime can be proprietary. |

SB1613 would:
Require motorists to use a hands-free device when using a cell phone while driving. Impose a $20 fine for a first offense, $50 for subsequent offenses. Exempt emergency personnel, farm vehicle operators, tow truck drivers and commercial truck drivers. Exempt motorists making 911 calls. In ANY case smart@ss it would be a lot safer to be dialing using voice dial than looking at a touchdisplay and finger dialing. Hands down easier and safer. Why $49 phones have voice dialing but the $600 iPhone doesn't is plain stupid. Quote:

When I logged on to my AT&T account, there was an option to add voice dialing. It's $5/month and requires you to dial *8 prior to announcing the name.
That's a no go. It's just as easy to access my contact favorites as it is to access the keypad. Hopefully Apple will add it in a future software update. |

Like any form of wireless communications there is a risk involved. However most only use this function when doing something specific like transfer of a file. I dont really see your argument as if your not doing a specific thing using BT then it shouldnt be on anyway. Why would you want to leave it on if your not making use of it. Your only draining your battery.

Who's going to write an iPhone virus bearing in mind there's no development tools, no compiler, no SDK?
Even then, Apple could simply block .app file transfer and the .apps are signed anyway. A virus is the most unconvincing argument EVAH! for blocking off bluetooth file transfer of songs and pictures. I'd guess Apple just haven't worked out the fine details yet in their media sharing functionality. It'll be like iTunes/iPhoto sharing via Bonjour over Bluetooth/WiFi when it's done. |

Although I really want an iPhone and I'd gladly go out and buy this version today, at least when the iPhone does come to the UK this autumn, we should have a full feature set and any bugs will be ironed out!
