Running Games without a CD

Well I've got my new PowerBook and I'm looking for some games to play on it. I dug out some of my older games which I wasn't able to play due to the DVD-ROM drive being broken.

So I dug out Warcraft II Battle.net, Starcraft, Deus Ex, Diablo II, Warcraft 3, Glider Pro, Risk, and Quake 3. I know that developers don't want people pirating their software but I actually own these games and just don't feel like dragging around these CDs.

Some games you can put on a disk image and they will work, like Deus Ex, Jedi Knight 2, Risk, and Glider Pro. But the Blizzard games, Jedi Knight 2, and Quake don't work using this method. Again, I can understand why the developers don't want people trying to steal the games but I bought them and just don't want to use the CD. After all, when the computer is using battery power, the CD drive lowers the life of the battery even more.

So do you guys know of any way to run the games without a CD or any games that don't require the CD to run (maybe a full install). I've been away from Mac gaming for a while so any hints are appreciated.

Quake III should run fine without a CD provided you copy the big pak0.pk3 off the CD and drop it into your baseq3 folder with the other pk3s.

As for the others, you might be able to find a crack or patching tool somewhere on the seedier web sites and filesharing systems. Let me know if you find one for Starcraft. I have having to dig out the CD each time for that.

Dang. I'm not really looking for something 'seedy'. I like the disk image idea the best, especially more than cracks.

i know u don't want any seedy, but to resolve ur problem u could go to gamecopyworld and download the no-cd patch for each of those games. since u own all those games it's not seedy.

Well I got Warcraft III working without a CD in the drive (actually, all it took was a very simple and small disk image).

Still nothing for Starcraft or the other games though.

For some games you can create a disk image with the same name as the cd needed to play. With most though you're going to need a crack.

Any for OSX? All these seem to be for PC games.

I know Warcraft III works because thats how I play it. Use Disk Copy and use the compressed form. The CD/DVD master never worked for me.

OS 9 smiles down upon you.
