Any News on Monitor Updates?

I'm getting ready to buy a 30 inch monitor. My 30 inch monitor of choice at this point is the Samsung. Apple hasn't updated their 30 inch monitor for over 2 years. The Samsung is cheaper, faster, better contrast ratio, and height adjustable. I thought I read somewhere that the Samsung is also LED backlit.

However, I like the style of the Apple monitor, along with the integrated power switch for the PowerMac/MacPro. I've been waiting, off and on, for a year and a half for Apple to update their monitors.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about monitor updates?

Anyone know about the LED backlight issue (Samsung, Apple, Dell, HP)?

Thanks

Yes, someone knows the answers to each of your questions, and it's the same someone! Unfortunately, he works at Apple, and has signed and NDA.

Yeah, isn't that frustrating! I just know I'll get the Samsung, then 2 weeks later Apple will update with something better.

    Samsung's XL30 is LED-backlit, but it's over $4500.

Their other 30-inch monitor is the 305T, which you can get for $1240.

If you're monitor shopping, read the big post in this thread:

    http://forums.anandtech.com/messagev...&enterthread=y

It gives recommendations based on your application. The 305T doesn't do so well. You may want to look at the NEC LCD3090, or even (gasp) the Dell 30"ers.

Thanks...that's a good link. I'll be doing some more homework.
