MacOSRumors finally gone!

http://www.macosrumors.com/

I'm sorry.. but these guys were terrible. The "inside info" they posted was laughable, and they absolutely never updated their site when they said they were going to.

ie: "Fresh dirt on 10.5 coming tonight!"

Tonight turns into morning, morning then to night again, days pass, and the fresh dirt announcement is quietly removed.

Sorry for ranting a bit.. but these guys were clearly out only to make profit off ad clicks, and nothing more. Wasting the time of many mac enthusiasts looking for inside info on their favorite products.

Goodbye MacOSRumors...

ThinkSecret, MacRumors, and AppleInsider are the best places, in my opinion..

I wouldn't cheer too quickly yet. Meader has a long history of "forgetting" to pay his domain bills on time. This is about the 4th time I have seen them time-out their domain since '97. Then they are back online three or four days later with some lame-o excuse and a new pitch for donations.

Lame.

His laziness is what kills me.

His name is Meader?

People who spend their time making quick money off ads.. And the site refreshes every 30 seconds or so to bring in new ads.. It just drives me crazy!

Meader's dumb website will outlast cockroaches.

I don't even waste my bits going to his site. It's not even funny anymore.

What's his problem, and why does he waste everyone's time with his useless website?

I remember when MOSR was THE rumor site. About 5 years ago perhaps?

the post comment ratio to story is higher there than here, obviously a bigger audience and more members. i prefer AI for news but for reading, there is more content there.

Yeah, it was pretty bad back then, too. But they had some nice mockups of the G5, G6, and G7 about that time.

You must be thinking of macrumors, which is an excellent rumors site. No one reads MOSR anymore.

Yeah, MacRumors is good.. Though I do find they often just repost what ThinkSecret and AppleInsider write about.

He was right-on about the G4 desktop, way before anyone else. That's about it.

how quickly people forget...

actually, ryan and "mac the knife" were the only two sites "in the know" back in the days pre-steve-jobs-v.2.0, and was fairly accurate with lots of items before the g3 came on the scene (yes, kids, there was an apple computer BEFORE the g3/imac...) but ryan got fed years of false leads when steve took over, and he bit on almost all of them, seemingly unaware that he was leading apple right back to their leaks.

now, not only does he have a reputation for bad rumors, but no one will touch hime with anything valuable, either. but all it will take is somone giving him one bit of legitimate inside info, and we'll start listening again. heck, if i were apple, it might be worth seeding an actual mockup of a minor product. no one would believe him until AFTER it was released, due to recent track record. then everyone would believe EVERYthing he posted afterwards for a while, throwing everyone off track of what apple is really doing.

a bit of reverse marketing psychology, but i like it.

As a matter of fact, it was almost 5 years ago when they published the Dodecahedron Mac rumor. I cannot forget that.

You guys sure were hurting for rumors back then.

If Apple makes such a computer, even on a limited productoi run, I'll suck my own dick, and swallow!!!

If MOSR meant this as a joke, then they are one step away from running clear of my bullshit detector

People don't follow that crap anymore cause it's just so blatantly ridiculous..

Those of us who follow Apple on a daily basis have a bit of a better idea of what's crap, and what rumors are going to see the light of day.

Haha. So maybe it was more than 5 years. Or maybe they always were crap, but they had a lot more influence back then. But no one talks about them anymore, and it used to be a primary source of discussion at least.

As I recall, they had the scoop on the cube right when I first started following apple rumors. That was the last thing they got right. Not long after that was the dodecahedron thing, and I stopped paying attention.

For all of the reasons so well stated above, I'd almost bet that when The Tablet is ready for launch, any leak will be at Meader's.

From today's MOSR:
Quote:
As we consider a purchase of our first Intel-based Mac laptops for Rumors' Maine, USA; California, USA; and Tel Aviv, Israel editorial offices...
They have a Tel Aviv office now!

When they said "Think Different", I ran with it.

Obviously, they are doing well if they have 3 (THREE!!! ) editorial offices. Kinda almost like CNN

The thing that cracks me up is the links to their stories never work. Right now three different links go to part of the same story. Hopefully someone in the new Tel Aviv office can get the sight to work correctly. A few weeks ago, they had several breaking stories but the links never would go beyond an ad page. The front page reported they were aware of the problem and working to correct it. Eventually they just removed the links and all of the amazing "recon" contained in the stories was lost to the world. Tragic.

When they said "Think Different", I ran with it.

I too remember when MOSR was far more credible and had daily updates. It all started to crumble around 2002. That's when I remember saying "Ryan Meader is on crack" a lot.

lol...didn't look anything like the real pismo...anyways, if i can find the image i'll post.

As QUOTED from MacOSRumors:

Quote:
"As we consider a purchase of our first Intel-based Mac laptops for Rumors' Maine, USA; California, USA; and Tel Aviv, Israel editorial offices....it goes without saying that we will be putting more than a few of these new BT Mighty Mice on our shopping lists in the process."
This guy has more offices than he has stories on his website! Honestly.. the guy must be making some descent cash off the ads.. I don't know why he'd bother with the site otherwise..

I think whoever started this thread was reading my mind. Yea, macosrumors.com is a joke. I can't stand how they say they'll have info on such and such by such and such a time, and then days later it's still not updated. And I TOTALLY HATE.... how the pages auto-reload and the popups.

haha.. all we want is inside info!

I love how often there will be a report RIGHT after an Apple announcement, and the author (Ryan Meader?) will state how it was somehow expected and that MacOSRumors was tracking the product for sometime...

Yes Placebo.. it's probably a joke. Better go and tell him we just figured it out.

Yep. It even had a layout that didn't immediately make you want to gouge your eyes out.

Then something happened. It was like night and day. Respectable inside info and rumor mongering turned into random , baseless crap surrounded by annoying ads.

Either I've changed or the Mac rumor mill is no more. No longer do I frequent any mac rumor sites or even just plain mac news sites. Forums seem to be a more valuable use of my time. With a bit of experience its easy to pick out info from people with good track records. Anyone else feel the same?

www.MacOSRumors.com was the original, first, granddaddy of all rumor sites. It was started by a high school kid in WA State named Ethan Allen, and he posted screenshots of MacOS 8 before it shipped. Yeah, that's around 1996 or so. He got into a lot of trouble with Apple Legal for that, I think, and then he got into other trouble. See http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:...lnk&cd=2&gl=us
Then he sold the domain to Ryan Meader, and he actually continued it as a fairly reliable source of insider rumor stories. Then it fizzled out later...
