I had a phone call with a girl/friend wednesday night. She asked me which was better an iBook or a TiBook. I said the iBook for it's portability and durablility...also price.

Well, she said that price was not really and option and she wants the Tibook with all the works...I thought this was weird. She does have a good job and has saved money but a Tibook is still a big money item. I asked if she was getting this for her birthday (in December) and she said yes...from her boyfreind of 10 months...now wait a minnit...her boyfreind of 10 months is going to buy a $ 3,300 Tibook for her?

Doesn't anyone think that's strange? I do. Anyways, I hope the guy is being on the up and up...I have known she's been hurt bad by other guys. Hope this isn't another.

My advice to her was more a question..."It's not why you need one, but why he would buy one for you in the first place? She couldn't really answer that...she said she really likes him and he likes her. He also isn't a computer user either so he wouldn't get much out of this...Oh well, I told her to get the best one if he'll buy it and in my mind I hoped for the best in this situation. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Everything's different for different people, I suppose.

Maybe this guy is very well off and $3000 to him is like $100 or so to me (expensive, but not out of the question), or maybe they just have the kind of relationship that they've covered a lot of ground in 10 months and 10 months to them is like 2-3 years for anyone else?

Who knows?

Personally (just knowing me and all), I'd have a hard time accepting something that pricey from someone PERIOD, 10 months or otherwise!

I'd feel like I owed her BIG TIME and that I'd have to be on my best behavior and not mess up or act weird at any time from there on out. I'm not talking about cheating...I wouldn't do that. But I mean just maybe getting into one of my moods or feeling like being alone for a bit or simply tired of her being around every second of the day.

It happens.

I've had platonic girl friends buy me small gifts out of the blue and, while certainly thankful and appreciative, it's also kinda freaky. I guess because they ARE platonic? If I was "with them", maybe it would be different.

But, then again, I always feel like I didn't do anything special to deserve it. Any girl I were to get serious with would, more than likely, be in the same income bracket as me, so hopefully that issue will never rear its head with me.

I mean, I certainly do okay, but I'm not in any position to buy someone a $3000 laptop at the drop of a hat or just because she's my "sweetie". Hell, if I had $3000 to blow that casually, I'd spend it on myself and buy ME a TiBook!



...and that's probably why I'm single. Haha.

Thanks for the thoughts on this. It has been nagging me since our call. Also that I'm not alone in my opinion. Maybe they are head over heels for each other. But I don't think that buying a $3,300 is a right thing.

If I had a comfortable income, a sweet girlfriend I had been going out with for ten months I think I would do more in the relationship to keep it going strong than buying material things...expensive material things. I would feel that everything might just hinge on that and it would undermine what we have between the two of us...real natural affections.
