Okay, the intention is noble, I'm sure. But couldn't these also be acquired by thugs and lowlifes and make THEIR job easier?

Will it degenerate to frequent "taser draws", with criminal and innocent citizen both lunging for their tazers, seeing who can zap who first?

Citizen wins, another crook bites the dust.

Mugger/rapist wins...

don't even want to imagine.

Wait till a bunch of dumb teenagers go on a rampage with these things.

You've probably heard about the idiots that go around shooting people with paint guns - for the fun of it.

Exactly! That's the kind of stuff I'm talking about.

As usual, law-abiding good people will buy them for legitimate, genuine reasons. But the shitheads of society will abuse it and ruin it for everyone else.

Always seems to happen.

Either with bratty teenagers engaging in "innocent hijinks" (yeah, right...) OR with violent, true hardcore types using it for more sinister purposes.

A weapon is a weapon. No one really NEEDS a tazer, no more than any one needs a gun. I admit that they are better to ahve than guns, but I still see them being constantly misused.

Bad idea, without question. No permits required, no close contact required, no proof you were ever zapped after the attacker leaves (no forensic evidence IOW). No freakin' way - not without a permit and minimum age requirement.

Well, all I can say is if I were a mugger, I'd be getting myself one of these for sure.

Nice and quiet. Just a quick ZAP in the park, empty the purse (or worse), and you're gone. No troublesome yelling, messy blood, etc. Nice, clean mugging.

Great product.

One can make their own taser with a battery, mofo capasitor, and two electorodes I think....

/ \\
|--][--|
| |
|--|i--|

/ \\ equals electrodes
][ equals capasitor
|i equals battery

Just put a switch somewhere in between the capasitor/battery loop. Flip it on. Let the capasitor charge. Shove the electrodes into someone. *ZAP!* hehe.... <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

I do NOT take responsibility for anyone who might try this at home.

editt: damn. I hate spacing problems. Just imagine that all the right most characters line up and that all the left most characters do as well.

LOL why do these companies portray their products as "protection against the bad guys" type of products. Any device that makes it easy for you to thwart an attack makes it just as easy for someone else to initiate an attack. Marketing at it's best.

Stupid product. Now I'll just be walking down the street or something and *zap* I wake up without my PalmPilot and anything else that somebody might find interesting.

They just designed the *perfect* weapon for muggers, not as a defense.

Trivia: TASER stands for "Thomas A. Swift's Electric Rifle".

This is what I do when I have nothing constructive to add.
I'd rather use that than a 38 to stop an attacker. Turns out to be a mistake or the person is mentally impaired or whatever the consequences are several orders of magnitude less severe.
Yes, there are all sorts of nitwits out there but I'd rather they carried Tasers than guns.

Not trying to be a troll here, or to trivialize the fact that there are way too many weapons commercially available for purchase by whoever has the cash...

But is this really different from any other weapon already out there like: pepper spray? mace? tae kwon do lessons? the plain 'ol rock to the back of the head? Any of these could potentially be used for either self defense or criminal activity.

One of the criticisms against most police departments is that they do not have any ranged, non-lethal means to disable suspects. Right now, their only real choices are to shoot 'em, chase 'em, or use harsh language. Wouldn't this provide a good alternative?

And, if sky marshalls do end up being placed on commercial flights, I'd feel MUCH safer knowing that they aren't armed with anything that could catastrophically depressurize the aircraft if they missed what they were aiming for...
