Best burgers in fast food, as far as I'm concerned. Thanks Dave.

Roy Rodgers had the best but ....

I kind of liked that guy. Sad to see him go. Please don't tell me he had a heart attack?

That sucks. I always like him in the Wendy's commercials. I also think Wendy's is the best fast food place.

liver cancer...

and he was a great guy (i lived in columbus, ohio for a few years - wendy's everywhere there, as he founded it there). he was also adopted, and donated a TON of money to adoption organizations...

remember, steve j. was adopted, too.

Save Jack, Dave was the coolest fast food icon.

Just when he was starting to get this acting thing down...

Rest in Peace.

Aw, that's too bad. He had a cool, regular-guy presence in those commercials.

I wonder how Wendy's restaurants are handling it? Do you think the employees are perhaps wearing a ribbon or armband or something? Or that they're put a sign/poster somewhere, acknowledging it?

Should've gone to Wendy's tonight for a burger, just to assess the vibe/mood.

Yeah, I'll miss the ol' guy. He was just in his late 60's if I recall correctly. He'd been having some medical troubles for a while and was also diabetic.

Wendy's is the favorite burger place for colleges since they're open 'til 1 am. There's always a long line around the building for the drive-thru at 12:45 am at the Wendy's nearest to NCSU.

That's sad, I thought he was quite funny.

Kitty, can you post some more photos on your website?

But seriously, welcome...

Thank you PSCates, Glad to be here!

I plan on posting new ones later this week.

Now we hear all the cool stuff about Dave. He was an advocate and strong supporter for adoption being adopted himself. He aslo only had a high school degree. Never went to college. One of the cool things is that he thought that if he had then Wendy's would have been and even bigger success. It's nice to hear that rather than, "eff that! I didn't need it!"

Yes, R.I.P. He did over 800 commercials (!) and hated doing them. I like the fast food too. Probably go downhill now...

While I don't really wish death on him, and that comment was in bad taste, I don't like the man.

1. He's racist.
2. He's ultraconservative and donates millions to pro-life political candidates.
3. He's a buffoon (have you ever seen his training videos?)

You didn't answer the question so I had to search it out myself. I guessed right. He is the Carl's Jr. guy. Now what information do you have to support that he's a racist?

As far as I can tell he supports pro life candidates. What a horrible crime (he gave $30,000 to the red cross too, horror)

Dave Thomas' expressions, face, and body type all remind me of my dad. I guess that's why I thought Dave was so cool.

I'll have to tell my dad that...

Sorry, I didn't have my facts straight about Carl. His extreme bigotry lands more in the homophobic camp than racist, although he has also been known to discriminate against women and minorities.

If he died of liver cancer, then that cartoon is completely off-base.

The man was affable!

Yeah, that cartoon is tacky. Just because people CAN print/draw/write/say something, doesn't always automatically mean they SHOULD.

Poor taste indeed. But America IS too fat overall.

He did have a by pass several years ago.

It is bad taste because Dave was a real guy and seems like he was a "good guy" at that. So soon after his death is bad taste.

Poor Dave, he was the best of 'em.
Woulda been ironic if he died fomr a heart attack caused form high cholesterol (sp?) eh?

Did you guys know that Dave Thomas was a highschool dropout? Dave later went back to get his degree at age 69 and went to his schools prom with his wife where the school voted him most likely to succede.

Sad hes gone, seemed like a nice guy.
I just found that out. He was at a lecture telling kids to not drop out like he did and one of kids told him he should get the GED. Kind of a "put up or shut up". So he did.
Scott, sure, I know about the quadruple bypass, but that's not a validation for the cartoon. What if Dave Thomas died in a plane crash, for example? The cartoon would make just as little sense.

Dave Letterman has a *quintuple* bypass. Bypasses are not death sentences.

I did say it was in bad taste. After the bypass he dropped a lot of weight. He also reworked the menu to put more healthy food on it.
He did die from cancer of the liver. I still have no objection to humor that may be considered in bad taste, though. I do object to victims of such humor who complain though... well, if they're around to complain... and those who object on their behalf. I'd love to see cartoons like that about me when I'm dead, uh, if you know what I mean. Unfortunately it's unlikely I'll ever be as famous and well-liked as Dave Thomas.

Speaking of which, I'd advise avoiding the new Wendy's Dave Thomas Cheeseburger Supreme, which will be on sale at Wendy's restaurants from tomorrow. Thankfully, due to certain production issues, the product will only be available in very limited quantities.

Belle, I wonder what his family and closest friends think of the cartoon. If you died tomorrow and I printed a lampooning cartoon with the text, "Belle, just another fat, ugly bitch I'll never have to lay my eyes on again," I think people close to you would be furious. Maybe you'd be honored by that...who knows?!

I tried to goto to Wendy's today as an homage to Dave. It was closed. I think it's for the best because it was a bad bad Wendy's.
I went to a nearby Wendy's yesterday and everything seemed perfectly normal. Of course, I didn't expect everyone to be profoundly affected, but I do wonder if the chain will do something like a ribbon campaign to salute Dave.

I did heard on the radio that they were "reworking" a number of the TV ads. I don't know if they're just cutting Dave out or if they're putting a little "In Memory Of" at the end.

YOU SAYING I'M FAT?!?!

It's maybe just my friends and family, but I think they'd find that very, very funny. And I do have some proof in that my absence from these forums last month was down to being diagnosed as having a form of cancer, and have had nothing but such abuse from friends and family ever since.
