This is a great photo (found it at your website). Did you take this? It looks like something you'd see in a magazine...and it makes me want to see Thanksgiving hurry up and roll back around.

Not even the (I think) fruit salad at the bottom? Maybe that's why you're often so cranky: gotta eat a balanced diet!

Heehee, funny, alliance, I'm originally from California too... guess I can't get away from the warmer climates...

But yeah, pscates, I took that picture this past Thanksgiving. My mom did the spread, she's like the Filipina Martha Stewart, heh. Just your normal Thanksgiving fare, though... turkey, stuffing, cranberry, sweet potatoes, bean casserole, etc. (yes, that is fruit salad). And that wasn't even the only table of food! A whole table of desserts too.

Oh man, I'm homesick now.

Hey, Courtney. Welcome.

I was born in Hawaii (Tripler Airforce Hospital) but we came stateside when I was too young to remember any of it. Dad was in the service. I think Tripler is called something else now and the base it was on is not on an Airforce base anymore. Anyway, someday I'm going to visit Hawaii again.

There are APPLEs in the picture. Funny you should recognize them, I'd think.

My mom cooks like that EVERYDAY. Not kidding. Sometimes TWO entrees/meats. Always many veggies, bread, desserts, too. I can't believe my dad isn't 500 lbs. At 80, I WISH I were in his shape.

Wow, more islanders/ex-islanders here. Wonder how many of us there are? Im originally from Oahu as well. But in what can only be described as a period of temporary insanity, I left the islands and somehow wound up about as far away from Hawaii as one can get while still remaining in the same country.

Thats OK, though. You may have blue skies and ocean breezes, but Ive got...uh...well...snow. Lots of it. Mounds and mounds of snow.

Please excuse me while I dig my car out of one of those snow mounds I mentioned.

(Note to self: take vacation. Now.)

Really? I was in Boston yesterday and there wasn't much snow there. Not much snow in Beverly, MA, either. A little bit in Lowell, and a little more in Nashua, NH. Hollis has a few inches on the ground, but definitely not the mounds and mounds of snow you're talking about.

Oh well, I guess any snow at all is more than what you'd be used to in Hawaii.

Actually...you're right. (I was exagerating a little ) Boston didn't get a whole lot of snow. Did get quite a bit in Burlington, MA where I work, though it's been mostly cleared except for the mounds in the parking lot where building maintence piles the stuff...

Yeah, my first winter here was fun. But as they say, the novelty wore off. Now, I start looking forward to spring in september.

Tripler is still there. I work fairly close to it, methinks. No base, but the hospital still exists. At what age did you move back to the mainland?

You need to come back. Things are a lot different. I was here over a decade ago living with my uncle in the Navy for a few months, and boy has it changed...

thanks for the warm welcome

I guess I see what the food is now. I do eat a balanced diet thank you very much.

I lived on naval base there when I was a kid and my wife lived there for a time. Her teacher's aid from school is now a published author. My wife sent her a "remember me" letter and she pulled her old gradeschool photo from a box. Kinda cool huh?

I was just a little over a year old when we moved back east. My parents wanted to be closer to family. Dad was initially sent to Plattsburg, NY. We lived in a farm house and there was so much snow that you couldn't see out the windows on the first floor. He quickly was transferred again to Westover in Mass. After that, he left the service.

Yeah, is that where you met your wife? Or were you both there at different times?

No. We were little kids then. My wife has the fantasy that we passed on the street only to meet later. We weren't even there at the same time though.

I think the military gets just about everyone out there at some point in time.

Yeah, there's so much military here, it's dizzying. Think about it, this is the safest place in the country right now, we're isolated and there's military at every corner. Ain't no way there'll be another Pearl Harbor.

Come visit Hawaii, it's actually quite affordable right now.
