I'm very pissed about that. After weeks of saying "I wanna play for the Mets", "I'd love playing with Robbie (Alomar)", etc he decided not to come to the Mets. Oh well,. I'm sure Steve Phillips has something up his sleeve like usual.

I'm glad the Red Sox found someone to take Everett. He can be a good player but he comes with too much baggage. The pitcher we got for him probably won't make the team, though. That's okay. It kind of disses Everett to say that this is all we could get for you. And the Sox signed Johnny Damon anyway so they didn't lose any ground when all was said and done.

Juan Gonzalez is a good addition, though. Not sure what your complaint is. He certainly did the job for the Rangers the first time he played there.

I think his complaint is that the Rangers always get hitting but it never gets them anywhere. At least they did get Chan Ho Park so they have one decent pitcher.

Who the heck is Juan Gonzalez? The NHLPA does not have any information on him! New York must be crazy!

Kestral,
I think you might be pulling our collective legs
but in this case the Rangers this thread is discussin is the Texas Rangers. Baseball. Not hockey.

where's the big spiel about how the rangers can buy anyone they want? or are you only completely bias against NY?
Applenut, the Rangers haven't bought success because they aren't successful.

The problem isn't with the Yankees spending money, it's with them buying championship rings. If the Rangers start dominating year after year with the highest collective salary in the league, then we'll talk.

Yes we got the Chan Ho Park, and that was a good pick-up. I wish we'd go after more pitchers, though, the Rangers have lost me as a fan so long as they follow the "Free-Agent Slugger" Method of baseball.

"buying" championship rings?
1.) how is putting the money you make out of a business back into the business and making it stronger wrong and "buying" something.
2.) it has been proven by countless teams that money does not buy a good team. Orioles, Rangers, etc.

Baseball? People still care about baseball? Aren't a bunch of teams about to fold, and the rest implode from salaries that they can't support?

I know I still care about baseball. The teams don't wanna fold, MLB's pretty much making them. Montreal has no fans anyway.

what was not true from what I said? it's easy to call some one ignorant but its much harder to give a reason apparantly. but who's the ignorant one here

yep, a failure that is the ranger organization but blew apart the free agent market because they spent millions more than anyone was going to on a player that his only market WAS the Rangers. they throw money away, they just did it again. yet you don't go into a big overblown thousand word essay on why the rangers ruined baseball and have too much money and that they should never have that much money, etc. only for the yankees. yet you tell me there is more to baseball than the yankees. sure. seems like its your problem

the ignorance part was referring to yer biased opinion on the yankees--im sure uv read some of yer stuff...so go look em up fer a refresher.

the rest, i agree w/
i dont like the rangers any more than the yankees. they are a failure in terms of a baseball organization. the difference is that w/ the rangers, i really dont give a sh*t, cause they always suck despire all the spending. they are run by fools. the yankees are well run, yes, but they simply have way too much money to play w/.
they can afford to make mistakes. instead of signing one or two players to huge contracts (ala rangers), the yankees sign multiple big contracts, but are a lil more spread out, yes. and if one player doesnt work, they just go out and get another one, pure and simple.

please, i cant wait fer yer response:

"but the yankees dont spend all that much money. that $150 million is well spent based on the farm. its really not much when u look at all the small names they have, and none of them are getting too much money...
oh yeah, we dont have any stars besides jeter, blah blah blah..."

i cant wait...

so because the rangers suck and spend a ton of money and the yankees are good and spend another money the rangers aren't as "bad" as the yankees?

that's basically what you're saying.

uh no. we are a team of great players. especially of players who have grown in ability since signing with the Yankees. the Yankees unlike other teams don't let those players get away if they really want them. yea, they may have the money to do that and some other teams may not but how can you be upset with the Yankees about doing that. They are in NYC. they have a ton of revenue. would you like them just to keep pulling in huge profits for the owner like some other teams do cough...Twins...cough?

uhh, no
they are both just as bad, except because texas has screwed themselves over, all i can do is laugh at them, not criticize them. the yanks, on the other hand...well u know all about them, so i dont have to tell u, eh...?

lol.

alright. but you said in the other thread the Yankees have ruined baseball. The Rangers are more responsible for "ruining" baseball yet because they suck you won't criticize them and the yankees are successful they are open to criticize. I don't see your logic.

Perhaps you're problem is that you just can't accept the fact that professional baseball is a money making entertainment business and not some "for the love of the game" BS everyone would like baseball to be
post #19 of 38
Meanwhile back in Boston, the Red Sox still don't have a new owner.

As a result, GM Dan Duqette is probably back for another agonizing season. Firing Jimy Williams was the worst thing he could have done for the Red Sox. When you're in second place and are holding the wild card just a few games behind the Yankees, you don't fire the manager. Is it any wonder that the last month of the season was a train wreck?

Will the off-season ever end?

As much as I'd like to get into this "Yankees buying World Series rings" discussion, I'm a Red Sox fan, and the rivalry would just cloud my judgment.

umm, actually i said that they were
part of the problem. of course the dodgers, rangers, orioles, etc are also crappy organizations that are helping to ruin this game too...
just cause i dont mention something everytime doesnt mean its not a factor...

I'm afraid applenut's typical whining attitude has derailed the thread. How unfortunate.

Next time you try to pull a thread-shit, applenut, at least make sure the subject you try to migrate everyone towards is similar to the one that started the thread.

Okay, if we have to get back on topic....

The Red Sox fans know what it's like to have a terrible GM. Plus, it looks like something bad happens when our two GMs get together. Carl Everett stays in Major League baseball. The horror. This guy should have been gone a long time ago. He can't hit, he damages the team's atmosphere, and he won't listen to authority figures. Even when he does listen, it makes him angry and he feels the need to hit something/someone.

Sorry you guys ended up with him. I hope you can get rid of him ASAP. The Red Sox are now better because of the 'addition by subtraction' factor that Everett had.

I believe that he hit in the .250s last season with less than 20 home runs.

Not very good production value, especially considering the problems that he causes.

He was good for us the first year he was here. You guys got someone who could be very, very good for practically nothing. There's a reason for that. But if he ever pulls his head out this could be a great deal for the Rangers.

Nice.

"Thread-shit" is Arsian for making an off-topic statement that derails the thread. (eg - Figuratively defecating on the subject.)

The Yankee subject, if I remember correctly, was an assertion by _alliance_ that the Yankees were bad for baseball since, he asserted, they bought championship rings.

That isn't applicable to this since the Rangers have no championship rings, so unless the Rangers are ruining the proud tradition of expensive failure there is no carry-over.
