Making your own energy is a big step towards personal freedom. Cleaning up the air and water is simply the sane thing to do.
Using less oil coal and other fuels which put tons of pollutants and not only CO2 should be everyones goal.
To the contrary, the sane thing to do is to use the most cost efficient fuel available in a free market economy wherein public cost (externalities) are accounted for.
Everyone's goal should be to create optimal use of resources (labor, capital, land) to achieve Pigovian efficiency. That is done through a market economy and consumer preference. Using more natural gas, oil, and coal is, at this point, more economically efficient than wind power, solar power, hydrogen power, syn fuels, ethanol, electrical personal transportation [/I]and perhaps nuclear power (each of which creates their own externalities).
Besides, ng, oil, and coal are organic, natural, and recycled from dead plant matter. Nothing synthetic. It's best use is as a fuel. Using this source makes far more sense than ethanol, which has to be taken from food production, french fry grease which is in very limited supply. or wind which requires vast expanses of ag land. Right?

It is good for some people's business, but it is not good for the economy. It requires significant subsidies, wastes ag land, creates its own garbage problems, and increases the costs of production and that of consumer goods. In otherwords, it destroys wealth.

A single field in ANWR is more likely to benefit the American economy than all the German or Chinese windmills born and unborn. The Chinese, in partcular, have found they can't dump the stuff and wisely are spending most of their investiment dollars in nuclear power (20 plants underconstruction now).
And when Germany no longer imports much of its electricity from less green countries, maybe I'll give them some credit. Till the the only green model that seems to work is France and nuclear power - something the 'greens' killed in this country.
If you can't explain or simply just realized you've made a dubious or dishonest statement it's ok to admit it. No one will fault you for it and you might even earn some respect for your humility and honesty.
