Yep. My brain would evolve to such a point that I would exist in a timeless state of perfection. Therefore when the universe collapses I can simply shift over to another universe.

LOL Macaddict I had the same thoughts...me just floating out in space hoping to die! 200 years is about all I could take of this World honestly.

I would only take it if I could be immortal like Highlander. That way if I couldn't take it anymore I could always just get my head chopped off.

I'd rather take a pill that would make you healthy when you start getting sick. Having a 103.5 fever really sucks.

The answer is simple, YES. Even if something horroble happens in the future, I'd still want to do it. Life is too short to do everything you want. I need to live forever, bwahahaha! <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

As much as I'd like to think I wouldn't, I'm probably too weak to pass something like that up. However, I'd have to live forever without aging (no Death Becomes Her shit, thank you very much.) And I'd have to be able to die when I chose to do so. What I'd much rather have would be a pill that gave me a live span of, say, 500 years. After that you'd run out of things to do.

I could do a lot of good with that kind of time on my hands...

Yes. In response to others objections-

1. Seeing everyone you loved die is a bummer.


Kind of selfish don't you think? I'd hate to see my friends and family die, but If I could make sure that I spared them such pain and would be around to take care of them I'd definately make the sacrifice.

2. Going obsolete.

Yeah, it might suck when everyone else is a cybernetically enhanced super-human, but it still beats a dirt sleep.

3. End of the universe.

I guess I'm an optimist, but I think we will beat that problem. Anyway, I think current theory suggests that a bazzilion years from now after the black holes have evaporated the universe would eventually quantum mechanically tunnel into another one. By then I should be caught up with my reading.

I'm invulnerable too in this scenario, right? I don't think i could handle the radiation burns.

You see, there's a problem inherent to this situation. What about the aging process? Assuming you are immortal, at what point to you stop "aging"? 20? 30? 40? 50? 100? 200? Can you imaging how weak you would be at 200? And what about diseases? Would you be immune to them or would your mudreds-years-old body be ravaged by the many illnesses?

Yeah, I would choose to be immortal if:
  • I'd stopped aging in my mid twenties
  • I didn't have to worry about any sicknesses
  • and could "pull a Highlander" if things got really bad

The only thing that would really bother me about immortality (aside from friends/family dying off) would be outliving humanity itself. Of course, I suppose I could find some other life in the universe to keep me company. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

Being omnipotent, omniscient, or omniprescent on the other hand would be awesome! I couldn't possibly turn that option down. I'd get to be just like good ol' Q! :cool: <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

thats what I was thinking about when I referred to being omnipotent above...

Just snap your fingers and the Universe is at your service...

I wouldn't need to. I already believe that by intense concentration at the point of death, I will be able to merge my personal consciousness with the cosmic consciousness, and become one with infinity. Quite a trick.

No, to live that long would be beyond what anyone could truly take I think. All I ask is that I live long enough to do what I need to do and die surrounded by friends and family. If that were tomorrow, that would be fine with me.

right..... Religions cant be proven, therefore nobody and everybody might be wrong.


anybody, about the immortality thing.... I think that it would be a very disturbing experience to see everybody grow old and die while you stay the same. Eventually I would want some way out. Can those who are immortal kill themselves?

being immortal would probably work for me
It would be painful having all your friends and family die, but I think I would be able to overcome that in time, and immortality would mean that I would have all the time I'd need.
It would definatly be interesting to be immortal
to be able to hone your brain to such degrees that you would be like a demi-god of sorts

if I'm not mistaken the average human life expectancy is steadily raising, and that in a couple hundred years living to be 120+ will be common place

I feel that 200-300 years would be all I could ever need
