Powermac 8500 Long Startup time

I have a problem with a Powermac 8500 running OS 9.
It takes half an hour to startup, if I unplug the ethernet cable it starts up normally.
After it boots I can plug the ethernet cable and the network works OK. Any help will be appriciated.

Try going into your control panel called startup disk and selecting the volume you want to startup from.
