It probably can be done. There are apps for using this as a controller, or remote. A new app lets you use a 3GS as a wireless camera for the iPad. I'm sure all sorts of things will be coming out.

Or perhaps someone has an iPad which they use when traveling. When they want to print something, it would be a lot more convenient to go to the hotel business center and print than messing around with gaining access to the business center's computers and installing whatever software you need to transfer the iPad file to the printer.

I can picture lots of times when printing directly from the iPad would be useful. Maybe you just have a limited imagination.

Your imagination is indeed running wild as you imagine an environment where most printers have WiFi.

No, most printers are network via a connected computer. Most printers do not have simple print-to wifi connect.

Maybe in 2-3 years. Not today. Hence its not a feature on iPad or iPhone.

I think import is a more fundemental feature than that. I think it's hard to justify calling it a spreadsheet app if it can't import or export Excel documents.

I have three "WiFi printers" by the nature of being on a wired network with a WiFi access point. Whether it's built in or not doesn't seem significant, the net result is the same.

All my printers are on the network as well, and I can print to them from my iPhone as well using PrintCentral. Since Hp came out with its app to print to its own WiFi equipped printers, networked or not, it's been possible.

almost any 99 dollar printer can be blue tooth or met worked blue toothed
since like 8 yrs ago

a bluetoothed usb dongle plugged in does the trick
ipad can and will print paper using pages SW
' right now direct to a printer ..you can even email to a printer
apple want to sell to students so this is a no brainer
apple never said it will not support IPAD as a work related device
AI and other cry babies are creating this false situation

in fact steve is waiting for us to tell him what magical thing's the ipad will do
and some future app s will OPEN UP the ipad beyond the pale
in the end it will be the top selling gaming /bored housewive device ever created

yet the ipad is still not a MBP
IT IS A portable media content device

PrintCentral - actually I think its one word - but seems to do everything and completes the loop making my ipad actually a grunty business device - printing from anywhere.
