StarWars - Episode 2 - Trailer 4

Now THIS looks like a good action packed movie... not those sissy type of 'sneak peak' trailers they had before.

From this trailer I feel this is a movie I can actually get to the movies 6 hours before to get a good seat for.

The cgi does look pretty cartoonish though, especially the landscapes, etc. I would've thought ILM could do better than that. Actually, looking at EP 1 again recently, I have to say that the CGI they did in that movie was pretty horrible compared to many other movies.

Anyway, this movie looks very wicked... you get to see the 1st version storm troopers, 1st version At-Ats, and what looks like 1st version battle cruisers (the big triangular empire ships).
I'm having deja-vu and amnesia at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

Agreed with most. Yet, the CG characters have excellent lighting and shadows. If you watch the scene when the Trade Federation lands, you can see Jar-Jar has excellent lighting on his head and the rest of his body.

I am excited about how cool this movie looks. Lucas always wants his movies to end with three or four different stories happening, and this one we will not be let down.

Just look at the end of the trailer with 10-odd Jedis fighting that army of droids.

By the way,Can someone give me a synopsis of what happens?

I thought it was just me. I'm really worried about how cartoony it will look. I want this movie to be good, but I feel like Lucas might have went overboard with the special effects this time.

With all the trailers we have a total of like 4 minutes of footage, so I guess I can't really tell until May 17th.

Synopsis:

No spoilers, but don't read it if you don't want to know.

It's 10 years after the Phantom Menace. Padme is no longer the Queen of Naboo, she's now a senator. On her way to Coruscant she is attacked and almost killed. The Jedi council put Obi Wan and Anakin on duty to protect her. Hijinks insue.

Padme is again almost killed by an assassin and Obi Wan decides to investigate. So he leaves Anakin alone with Padme and I believe he tells them to go back to Naboo and stay there.

They don't listen, go off on an adventure, fall in love and then horrible horrible things happen (won't give it away) that show why Anakin will turn to the dark side. Meanwhile Obi Wan's investigation leads him to the discovery of the clones, a big fight with Jango Fett (father of Bobba) and his eventual capture.

Anakin, Padme and all the rest of the Jedi end up on the planet where Obi Wan is being held and a gigantic battle takes place between droids, clones and the Jedi.

I left out a lot so not to spoil anything. One major scene I can't wait to see....

Yoda kicking ass

Yoda has a fight scene and according to what I've heard, he totally kicks ass and shows why he is the "master".

You remember in Return of the Jedi when the Emperor throws force lightning? Well Yoda actually catches force lightning that is thrown at him and throws it back!!!!

Okay, THAT trailer almost restores my faith in the franchise!

That looks like a serious, not-only-for-kiddies flick!

Much like "Empire", it looks to be darker and more sinister in tone.

$5 says it won't have a happy ending, much like "Empire".

Those Stormtrooper-looking soldier looked pretty cool!

I like how it seems to start bridging this era of the saga with the original trilogy we all know and love with little visual and design elements like that.

I'm betting that by Episode III, we'll even see a TIE fighter or perhaps even the Falcon?

Maybe Han Solo as a schoolkid, cutting class and all.

Yoda kicking ass... now THAT would really kick some ass.

"When 870 years old you were, kick this much ass you did not, mmm?!"

At a minimum, this ep looks to be much better than the last bubble-gum-like installment. I forget: do we get to see that stupid JarJar plastered all over a wall at some point? I want that goofy f*cker DEAD, and soon!

Sadly Jar Jar doesn't die in this one.
At least he has a lot less screentime though. Hardly even a background character really.

as soon as i have a bit more free time i'm going to pick up where i left off.

editting jar jar out of the first episode. i've watched it enough to come to the conclustion that you could easily take out 80% his screen time (esp. when he's talking) and not really do anything to the supposed plot of the first episode.

this helps keep the viewer from wanting to actually shoot their own computer or television.

oh yeah, couple that with new DVD burning iMac my parents got, and it might be time to have some fun with digital editting.

I gotta say, it's looking up.

Nothing better than Samuel L. kickin' some ass.
Except, perhaps, Yoda. Cuz, see, when I see Yoda, I think Grover. and when I think Grover kicking ass, I get a big smile on my face.

Cuz, it's GROVER!

I am SOOOO stoked for episode 2...it looks like they have seen the errors in their ways(episode 1) and are about to put out a movie worthy of the star wars title.

side note: I was thinking about the title...attack of the clones, my first impression was "oh my god! what the hell are they thinking thats terrible!..etc." but I watched phantom menace last night, and return of the jedi the night before(empire last week, a new hope the week before) and thinking about the movies in general and the titles, "the empire strikes back" is a just as goofy of a title as "attack of the clones" and taken out of context(or to someone that knows nothing about star wars) "a new hope" is kind of goofy too....now don't get me wrong, I'm one of the biggest star wars freaks on the planet, but I really don't think that episode 2 has a terrible title anymore, I see the logic behind it, and I'm sure in 20 years new star wars fans will hardly care about the differences between the original trilogy and the new trilogy...personally I'm super stoked for episode2, I can't wait.

wow... that looks like absolute crap. the computer generated backdrops look horrid and completely fake.

so unconvincing.

why the hell does EVERY scene have to have a CGI landscape? especially ones that look so fake?

Because Lucas is so convinced that he can eventually replace real people and real places with computer generated environments and actors. Then he'll get to keep all the money to himself.

Too many scenes...

From the trailers we've seen up until now + the latest one, that is my conclusion.

Lucas did it with Episode 1, he's doing it again...he's putting together a brazillion and one disjointed scenes with sparse dialogue and expecting it to be great.

Unless this movie is 3+ hours long, I don't see how anything could be allowed to develop.

Oh look, flying monster in stormy weather! Waterfall! R2! A horde of aliens! ZAP ZAP! Natalie Portman in chains! A chase scene!

Ugh.

I was actually really dissapointed by this trailer. "Forbiden Love" had really restored my faith in this movie. But the new trailer is sorta... iffy. It has the same lame wise cracks, Jango Fett just dosnt ryhm (nor does it go with any of the books which George signed off on). It has many of the same lame acting and lines as EP1 did. Except now it dosnt have the most badass bad guy ever (Darth Maul - now there was a dude who killed with style) I do like the fact that it dosnt have to much of Jar Jar ugh.

Now the fight scenes definately look cooler, and I like the darker atmosphere of the trailer. But it just didnt 'flow' right. Im sure I will love the movie, but I certainly didnt think this trailer was amazing.

EDIT: Oh and this is actualy Trailer 1. All the others where teasers.

Same. First thing I noticed was that the CG was smooth, but VERY cartoony. Almost as if it was TOO smooth.

I HAVE to see Yoda fighting
However anything called "Attack of the Clones" is going to be crap, and we already know the "plot twist" that Lucas wil pull.

You mean this plot twist:

Yoda: "Mace, your father I am"

Mace: "Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!"

Yeah, I'd love to see Yoda "in action". wink wink

Well, the first three movies had lots of swash-buckling up-close action. Episode 1 had lots of buckling but not enough swashing.

In this new trailer I think I saw swashing and buckling happening at the same time and that has to be a good thing IMHO.

Mind you, yes the CGI is crap (Yoda looks off - I thought once you've had a puppet you never went back...? ) and the acting hasn't improved.

7/10.

So when is The Matrix II coming out?

the amount of CGI in episode 2 is ridiculous....and on top of that ILM is being shown up by dream works and was it nothing real that made LoTR?
ILM used to be THE cutting edge cgi company...but when you see LoTR the Cgi in that movie looks almost too good to be true...the only few things that were off hideously were the troll guy and a couple of random creature shots. but for the most part the cgi and enhanced shots of new zealand landscapes were just mindblowing....why can't Lucas just shoot the movie in new zealand ...actually there were quite alot of desert scenes in this trailer so why not just shoot out were they shot the originals? as well as in a place like ireland or new zealand...or maybe they could shoot in australia...at any rate they should definatly be less dependent on Cgi....its one thing to say "this movie has so much Cgi because its the best in the biz" but when your not the best in the biz anymore...you have to be more modest.
They should in episode 3 go back to using ALL models and puppets...that way they could have a more clean transition into episode 4 ....and explain it as..."the galaxy went through a strange warp field that caused everything to look beat up and realistic"
very few of the cgi scenes from that trailer looked good...and I watched episode 1 two nights ago...and the cgi there is pretty horrible..especially compared to movies like
LoTR, The time machine(daaaaammmmnnnn), final fantasy(in some respects) and just about all dreamworks releases.
remember fight club? the cgi there was VERY realistic...it still had an "obvious cgi" look, but If it was still REALLY damn good.

as for the title..."attack of the clones" really isn't as bad of a title as everyone thinks...I said it before I'll say it again...is it any better than "the empire strikes back"? yes and no obviously...but in the long run they are pretty equal...and furthermore...new fans to the series that are not accustomed to star wars goofiness probably won't care about the title...and even furthermore, in a 20 years I'll bet that the three new movies will be just as classic as the originals are now(and the originals will be even more classic)
and cgi will become so photorealistic that someone will make a really elaborate hoax of something crazy happening and everyone will get worked up....kind of like "war of the worlds" style.

edit : correct me if I'm wrong but didn't all the live action in episode 2 get finished after like 3 months of work...and the other 2 years or whatever it was...went all into cgi.

Come on dude, with 4 minutes worth of footage you can't say that. You're probably going to be right, unfortunetly, but we won't know for sure till May 17th.

...actually there were quite alot of desert scenes in this trailer so why not just shoot out were they shot the originals? as well as in a place like ireland or new zealand...or maybe they could shoot in australia...

The desert scenes have always been shot in Tunisia and they went there again for this film too. I think you're thinking about the rock planet scenes. Besides going to Tatooine they're going to a new planet and I believe that was totally CGI. However, they filmed almost all of the rest of the movie in Australia and parts of Italy.

Yes, but this was true of ALL the Star Wars movies. It takes about 3-4 months of actual shooting and the rest is post-production. Whether its making muppets with needle and thread or in the computer.

Hoooboy! I actually liked the trailer. I think overall the look of the film has dramatically changed with Lucas using only digital cameras...though here the real people seem to look more artificial than the CGI characters...almost action figure-like. Weird. We'll have to see how it'll look on the film stock and big mega-plex screens.

Whatta cliffhanger..?

Looks lame. If all those driods were to shoot at once at one of those guy then he'd die. Using that the battle would be over in 60 seconds. Maybe that's the point. Don't all hte Jedi die in this one. 'ceptin Yoda and Darth and his brats.

Wow. And I thought episode 1 was a complete piece of shit. Lucas certainly has proved that there is no limit to how shity these things can be. It seems ever since his wife stopped doing the writing, everything has fallen to peices.

What are you talking about? Lucas wrote the original star wars and co-wrote Empire & Jedi with Lawrence Kasdan. Leigh Brackett also worked on Empire but she never finished the screenplay.

On the Phantom Menace he wrote the screenplay but had some help from Carrien Fisher and Frank Darabont but both of them are uncredited.

Episode 2 is being written by him and Jonathon Hales.

Lucas is divorced from Marcia Griffin and the only thing she did on the first 3 movies was work as an editor. I'd hardly call that "writing".

After witnessing the massive suck-fest that was Phantom Menace I wasn't having much hope for episode 2 but the fourth trailer (the first three are lame too) makes me think it might not be so bad after all.

There are 14 Jedi with lightsabers there. I'm not sure, but that looks like Yoda inside the circle using the Force. We'll not count him for this, as I don't know how to calculate the Force.

Looking at a different part of the trailer, Obi-Wan deflects three blaster bolts in under a second.

In that image there are around 100 droids, but I'm sure there are more outside that frame. Let's say 500.

Jedi can deflect bolts, sending them back to the shooter or something else, thus destroying it. With 14 Jedi deflecting blaster bolts at three per second, if my calculations are correct, each could destroy 35 droids in around 20 seconds. Of course, they might not all be accurate (if they are using the Force correctly, the Force will guide them and all should be accurate, but it can be hard to concentrate on the Force when you're fighting 500 droids I would assume). Someone's gonna get hit, most likely. So, the battle should be over in under thirty seconds and we have 13ish Jedi left standing.

...

Ya know...that doesn't seem right. Guess they shouldn't have shown Obi-Wan deflecting so fast.

Heh no. It was Weta of New Zealand. A company owned by Peter Jackson.

I have sinced watched the trailer a dozen or more times and it has actually started to grow on me. Im really waiting for this one. Yes EP1 sucked ballz. But the ending fight with Darth Maul was worth my ticket $.

Oh and the last teasers rocked, except for that lame DVD one.
