I hate fags too. I get a ticket for throwing an eaten bio-degradable apple core out the window, but I see people sucking on fags and then just throwing them out the window...

I hate it when trailer park trash leave their bundles of sticks around for others to trip over. Eventually some smoker will drop their butt into them and start a fire too... <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

You know, I agree with your position on smoking, but as a gay man, I take offense to the way in which you presented it. I know that by "fags" you mean cigarettes, but just for kicks, read what you wrote from my point of view.

You know, I would lighten up, but there are two reasons I'm not going to:
1) I'm in a rotton mood today, and my throat hurts to boot.
2) If anti-gay sentiment wasn't what it was, then it could be funny. But knowingly or not, he (or she, I can't remember who started this thread) played into some of the major anti-gay sentiments of the past 20 years. I take offense to the words fag and faggot. sorry, that's just what i think.

But anyway. This thread wasn't supposed to be a debate over gay issues.

So back to the topic at hand (or a little closer, at least). I was talking to a friend of mine who said that there was a McDonalds in Sanford, NC (I think that was where it was) that you could smoke in. I was under the impression that smoking was banned at all McDonalds nationwide. Anyone have any more info on this?

I am sorry you feel this way but I see nothing wrong with it. Here at AO we have many hot debates over different issues where we stick to clear (and confrontational) arguing and sometimes we just get creative, play around and have fun and have no offensive intentions with it.

Try to play along and tell about the good things about fags or play with the word straight and all the bad you associate with the word straight. Its just for the fun of it. The intention of the first post was to play around with semantics not to target gay people and I really don´t believe anyone think otherwise.

I don't understand why smoking is still allowed in most public restaurants. That is the one of the worst things you can have around an eating establishment!

And why in the world would someone want to smoke while their eating? "Mmm, this filet mignon tastes soooo much better with the tar, smoke, and tobacco flavoring."

If you want to smoke in pubs, fine, but don't do it in a restaurant.

Why is smoking even legal? If I took a knife and slit my wrists open to try killing myself, I'd be hauled off to jail. But if I smoke, nothing. Why is it that an immediate suicide is illegal, and one that takes several decades isn't?

Please refer to the drug legalization thread. According to people over there it probably has something to do with secret CIA activity. Whatever the case is, you can be sure it has to do with money since thats all that anyone seems to care about.

Now if they could make a larger profit off of razor blades, you just might see suicide becoming legal.

Simple. If you slit your wrists and die, very few people make money off of you: the razor blade company gets a couple of dollars, the hosital will get a little bit, and the funeral home will get some.

If you smoke, lots of people make money. What's a pack of cigarettes cost these days? I want to say maybe $2.50? if you smoke a pack every other day, the tobacco company makes a good bit of money off of you. The government taxes the hell out of cigarettes, so they make money. Smokers can't seem to keep up with lighters (assumption based on the number of times people ask me for a light) so the lighter companies make money. The hospitals will eventually make a lot of money off of your lung cancer, not to mention the drug compnaies. And the funeral home will make a little bit too.

And here's the best part: even if you don't smoke, second hand smoke can still give you cancer, so the hospitals and drug companies stand to make money off of collateral damage (to borrow a term from the military).

You know, come to think of it, smoking seems to be good for the economy. Maybe the govenment should require people to smoke

Suicide is legal. You can't be fined or punished for commiting the act.

This-or-that cigarette company actually argued for liberal laws towards cigarettes in this-or-that east european country by pointing out that people who smoked didn´t live as long as non-smokers and the government could save a lot of money for health care if a larger part of the population smoked. I know it sounds like an urban legend (esp. in my version) but it isn´t.

I'm not doubting you, but attempted murder? would that even hold up in court? I thought that murder had to be someone else. But then again, I've never looked into it, I just made this assumption based on that fact that there are 2 words in the english languarge: murder and suicide. huh.

But you can be institutionalized. And the police can put you in custody to "protect" you. And most life insurance companies aren't going to shell out any money if you kill yourself either.

They can't do any of that if you successfully commit suicide. Merely attempted suicide carries the consiquences.

The most disgusting thing about fags is when you see some one pick up an old butt, light their fire, and then start sucking it. Its just nasty. I mainly see this with old bums who cant get fresh fags, but Ive als oseen it with people trying to quit.

(hmm... perhaps Ive gone a step too far with this one...)

Also, I live in Vancouver, here you NEVER EVER say "can I bum a fag?".
