I think it looks pretty good.

What's funny is that with all the surrounding environtment being very grey, the white model almost manages to look like an aluminum model. I have to agree, unibody aluminum iPhone would be pretty sweet

I have a white Macbook, iMac and iPhone 3Gs....I always liked the fact they were different from the Dell's, HP's and Sony's 'corporate' funeral black and pallbearer gray!

But with the advent of the iPad which i will be purchase soon along with a 4g iPhone I think the time has come to put the white behind me. I still think it looks good for woman and teenagers, though.

I don't mean that in a disparaging way at all. Just for me the aluminum and black is starting to look more elegant......

It's a little more than that, both have a screen, the front and back are shiny black, with a silver "core" between the front and back. But that's really the only thing that's similar.

I don't know what you're going on about, I hope it's sarcastic. The iPhone's screen already has a built-in trackpad. Trackballs just aren't necessary and are a mechanical part that's prone to failure.

[QUOTE=MacHarborGuy;1637750]so are we in agreement that this iPhone looks like the PSP?

In fact, it looks almost, but not quite completely unlike the PSP. You know - take away the myriad of buttons, the perfed top bar, the motley collection of side controls, the cart loading slot/tray, the arced ends, the wrist strap loop, the plasticky top case, and larger form factor, I guess if I was blind drunk, squinting, cross-eyed, and focussed on the horizon, waving a hand in front of my face - it could in some alternate universe be called "looks like a PSP" by me. Yeah. So in which case I would have to agree.

Otherwise, not. Not even. Really. Seriously. NOT.

Get it? Got it? Good.

Steve: (grinning) Aw yeah, bitches, deal with it.

I still think this is exactly what is happening.
Every single element from the very start of this whole new iPhone thing (starting from when Powell walked out of a bar) has been completely un-Apple like.

For the record Apple and trackballs do not, repeat DO NOT work together well. At all. And all, repeat ALL of my friends and acquaintances with Blackberries complain about them CONSTANTLY, when they aren't in fact broken, missing or non-functional. So I have to strenuously and pointedly disagree.

a variety of colors to choose from sounds like a great idea.

Here are some mockups: http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/3504/picture5df.jpg (image)

Hmmmm, that's actually pretty interesting. iPhone OS 4 brings new customizable wall papers, so by choosing a light colored gradient or something similar you get a result that looks much more of a piece than the jarring white bezel to black screen version that's typically been imagined.

That mockup is pretty striking, and I don't see any reason the finished product couldn't look just like it (assuming Apple is in fact going to offer a white iPhone 4).

Hard to believe that Steve jobs is going to announce a 4g IPHONE which everybody has seen through leaks. Be prepered for a surprise when it's announced.
all these posts about a choice of color, imagine the interest if there actually was a substantial change, such as a removal-able battery or dual screen flip phone. In the mean time, Apple might was leak a picture of a pink phone and watch the 16 year old girls wet their pants.

I am thinking Apple enclosed all the buttons (side & top) and dock cable connection port in metal frame since on the current models the plastic backs are very susceptible to slight hairline cracks. Especially on the white model, they are more conspicuous.

Every iPhone I had developed cracks by the cable port and ring mute rocker.

To me, it's not an issue, but I would suspect for some iPhone owners it is. Apple probably replaced a number of iPhones, certainly many more that it would have liked. Thus, the metal frame design might be motivated from those problems. Just a thought

these were made for phones that don't have touch screens.

Holy FK that's sexy! A hell of a lot more sexy than this new Pho soup version that I thought was cool at first. Now that I've seen this unibody photo I hate the Pho soup version

EDIT: Would look sexy in white too. 2001 Space Odyssey like.

Is there any chance that the white one just has a white cover? Doesn't it look like the button is sunken considerably on the white one?
I love the white one. I'm finally departing from choosing Apple black/aluminum only. It is as beautiful as the iPhone 3G white was awful. As for more colors, maybe towards the end of the year, but if I had to bet, I would say 2011 for the next generation. By then, the iPhone platform will have really taken over the world and they'll be able to play more freely with it without fear of damage to it's image.

And the white mockup above looks like Space 1999. I actually like both aesthetics.

Though I really don't care, I feel my response was pretty cool in comparison to others I read in response to his calling out the OP for a picture sizing issue.

As they have pointed out, it was uncalled for, and if he is a moderator, he should have pm'd the OP rather than placing it in a public forum.

That piece of information actually makes what he did worse, rather than better.

But others have pointed this out, so I will leave it at that.

I agree. Though most won't agree, I prefer the "candy bar" design. It is more managable than most will give it creidt for, it's unobtrusive, it fits in a pocket better than a wallet, and it provides a sure grip.

My favorite phone before the iPhone was an extremely small (not thin, SMALL) Sony Erricson model I had when I was with t-mobile. To be honest, if it weren't for the iPhone and I wanted a phone that was just a phone, that would still be my favorite phone to this day.

Really wish I could remember the model of that phone....

I'm getting the white one, 'nuff said. If the white 3G is any example, white conseals smudges much more than black does.

But let me say that when Gizmodo first revealed the black 4G, I personally called it that a white model was on the way, and I imagined it to be just like this.

That said, Product (Red) anyone? Delicious.

The mods here are the main reason I spend time at AI and not MacRumors any more. Over there, all it takes is a couple of the trolls crying to mommy and you get banned. They do it all the time to people who dissect their arguments.

Thank you, that answer really does hit the spot..

The iPhone's screen is one of the the biggest 'trackpad' you can find in a smartphone, if RIM is to have a choice, it'll opt for the same touchscreen.. heck, RIM will even replace the Bold's screen with touchscreen in the future, there has been a rumor about this..

Hey how about this; why do you think RIM doesn't put a trackball or trackpad on its Storm smartphones..?

Unfortunately.. We can't, it's up to Mr. Steve Jobs to decide what is the best for us..
And all we can do is just to accept it with eyes blind-folded, that is if you don't like the new one but wanting to upgrade..

It is one sexy biatch, ain't it? I do hope Apple will someday make one like that..
And yes, I agree, I also hate the current leaked iPhone prototype..
Btw you shouldn't watch the video-clip, it'll only make you want it more..

When Apple had that long "hold" switch on the iPods, I don't think I've ever accidentally tripped that switch either way. But the iPhone's switch is so easy to trip that I put a dot of silicone into the switch to jam it so that I don't accidentally flip it. If I want to silence the ringer, I'll just hold the volume down button for a few seconds.

Myself, I was taken aback at first but have come to like the no-nonsense simplicity of the new design. Makes the current model look a little fussy, IMO.

I have had the opposite reaction to Mac Dog's. I love the new design as it looks way more industrial macho and I'll be getting an all white 64GB one for sure the day they go on sale. Then I'll protect it with a Speck PixelSkin cover. Can't wait.
