Movie Industry

Thread Starter
I am starting to think that the movie industry is doomed. Today I started a thread for the movie "Behind Enemy Lines". I ranted about how much it sucked. Someone else, (goverat I think) started one on another movie with Cameron Diaz.

Anyway, I got to thinking: I think movies are really doomed. The recording medium keeps improving as we now have CD quality sound and superb picture technology with digital recording and DVD's, but the content is getting worse. The only things I am excited about seeing are Star Wars Ep. 2 and Star Trek Nemisis (this fall for the latter). Perhaps Matrix 2 whenever that comes out.

I think it is just a matter of time till people lose interest. It has to happen sooner or later. We have already gotten as crude and violent and morally decrepit as possible, no? Don't even get me started on network TV and the standards it has sunk to.

Actually the Industry is just fine. The proble is and has always been heavily marketed movies. The movies that stand the test of time have been underachiever in the box office ala

The Shawshank Redemption
Blade Runner
Memento
etc

These are the movies that make watching the Indie part of Hollywood fun.

The movie industry is producing very nice movies. It's just the most popular ones that stink.

Just because a movie is the one displayed on the front page at amazon.com, doesn't mean you should buy it.

Go to film festivals. They're entertaining and sometimes enlightening.
