When I import photos from my iPhone using iPhoto, where do the photos go on the hard drive?

They go in your /Users/<name>/Pictures folder. It probably depends on how you import them though. That's what happens if you use Image Capture. If you use iPhoto, they would go into your iPhoto Library.
