Star Wars Episode II vs Spider Man.

Which movie do you think will be the biggest hit of this summer?

I guess it would be spider man. Cause this is the very first time spider man go on big screen.

Star Wars? People will still go to watch it....but it's not fresh anymore...

Star Wars will make more money. But I'm sure Spider Man is the better movie.
Well you right that Star Wars isn't fresh anymore. I frankly am getting bored over the series, but I think there are more Star Wars Fanatics then Spider Man ones so I will say Star Wars Episode II will win. That doesn't mean it will be the better movie though.
It'll be a close one.
Episode I made $430 million off horrible "buzz". People were trashing the thing up and down, Jar-Jar and shitty little bastard Jack Lloyd made it the butt of many jokes and the marketing blitz alienated a lot of people.

This one, by all accounts, is a lot better film-wise and the marketing blitz isn't half of what Episode I's was. Jar-Jar has apparently been toned down quite a bit.

I'll be there soon after opening day to check out Episode II just like I did Spiderman. So the movie biz has got my $16 for both.

My prediction is that Spiderman makes gaudy amounts of money and so does AOTC. How's that?

Heh, you're not wrong. It was a fairly unique occurrence - there was no way on earth that bad press was going to stop the public going to see a new Star Wars movie. I know in my case I still insisted on seeing it despite the critical reviews and friends who advised me to stay home and burn a $10 bill instead.

It's sooo comfortable up here, I've built lounge chairs. Care to join me?

It's difficult to say who will "win" at this point since we know very little of how good AOTC is. (Aside from the standard AintItCool review, which is very positive whereas their TPM review was very negative)

Natalie's a bitch. Kirsten any day, though that decision is based on the fact that I don't know much about her.

The Ivy league grapevine is my justification for calling Natalie a bitch.

Is that $16 US for each movie or both? If that's 16 for one that's very expensive. I pay only 9.50 CDN for a movie (in Silver City)

$7.75 each. I round up when it comes to monetary expenditures.

And if you want to get technical it's $7.75 x 4 since I take the girlfriend with me.

this is ridiculous, e2 will mop the floor with spidey

i did see spidey, and it was a good movie- if you know what to expect, a perfect comic book remake with beautiful sweeping action and poor dialogue with a linear plot. and it's not the first time spidey has been on the big screen.

from the early reviews it also appears e2 doesn't suck as bad as e1, it's apparently the 'empire strikes back' of the new trilogy, we'll see ...
If e2 is as good as Empire then it wins going away. If it sucks as badly as e1 then it's a toss up.

$7.75? Not bad... here it's $9. Ridiculous.
Having seen both movies, Episode II will win. Spidey was great. I really enjoyed it. But I won't be seeing it again till its out on DVD.

However I will go and see Episode II again and again. There was so much going on and so much to digest that I need to see it a few more times. That and the fact that I'm a huge Star Wars fan. So maybe my opinion is swayed because I'm the same age as the Star Wars saga and I don't know a life without it. Spider-Man I didn't get into until I was a little older

(p.s. not to be picky but the official title is "Spider-Man", thats how marvel has always spelled it )

I did not watch Spider-Man on opening day. I will watch Star Wars on opening day.

Spider-Man owns the 3-day record right now ($114M,) but there's no way it will keep up with Star Wars. I think AOTC will make even more money than TPM.

AOTC pleased Harry Knowles. It's also pleased a few other people I've talked to who have already seen it.

I'm sorry, but "Attack of the Clones" is the stupidest name for a (non-farce) movie in the history of show business.

It's clear that Lucas is trying to charm today's generation of kids with things like Jar-jar, averted disasters like boy band cameos, and silly titles, and not those fans of the originals who are going to see the movie even if it is crap. It is complete, shameless marketing. It appears as if Lucas has become just another corporate whore who has lost his art.

$4.50 here. Sometimes $6 on opening weekend.
Ah, the beauty of living in the sticks...

e2 wins by about $100mil not including VHS/DVD sales and foreign sales.

Wow that's really low. Before it was $9 it was like $8.25 I think.

At least if you go before 6 during the week it's only $6, but no one really goes then.
Well, here's how I see it.

Star Wars has fanatics going for it.

Spider-man has wider audience appeal going for it.

My guess is Spider-man will win out, both in the opening weekend and in the long run. Then again, I don't know how many theatres AOTC is opening in. That can make a difference.

I mean, EP1 didn't even beat Titanic did it?

I will go and see ATOC though, probably more than once. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds (both the movie and the financial rankings of each movie).

You know what i hat eabout hese movies? They are kid's movies. I WANT TO SEE NATALIE PORTMAN NAKED, AND NO FUZZY PAPARAZZI SHOTS OVER HER FENCE EITHER!

Dunst is nice too.
Its a gay name, for what looks like a kick ass movie, much better than the original. Jar-Jar is pretty low key in the second film, almost non existant. If you notice the marketing for Spider-Man has greatly exceeded the marketing for EP2. Lucas regrets the marketing tornado that engulfed EP1 and is trying not to do the same thing again.

What do you mean "even"??

Titanic tapped into the biggest sucker market on the planet, the teenage girl. There is NO market in the world more profitable.

Stupid girls will shower you in babysitting money if you churn out tripe like Titanic.

True, true...

And we've got plenty of boy bands to show for it.

Now, if Lucas had gone through with the whole Dancing Jedi NSYNC debacle, I'd probably have to give the nod to it instead.

That was a close call that one.

Yeah no kidding.

I was so happy when I read in Maxim that they weren't there.

AOtC has a lot of catching up to do. Spiderman is breaking all the records. And it does not look like it will be stopping any time soon.

I saw Spiderman this past Monday evening (even on a Monday night at 6:30, it was still jam-packed). As far as cartoony superhero flicks go, it was pretty okay. Much better than the third and fourth Batman sequels, I'll tell you that!

As for Episode II, I'm looking very forward to it. It looks very action-packed and perhaps not as talky and tough-to-follow as Episode I. I've heard that Jar Jar has indeed been toned down and isn't as prominent a character this time around. That and the fact that Jake Lloyd is in no way involved means chances are good that Episode II will be more like The Empire Strikes Back than the Star Wars CBS Christmas Ewok Special.

I want darkness, deception, intrigue, lots of saber play, explosions, edge-of-seat battles and rescues, a good story, good acting, kick-ass FX and an overall sense that Mr. Lucas learned some hard lessons from his Episode I experience.

I'm looking forward to Episode II.

Uh oh
You better set your expectations REALLY low.

While its much better than Menace, its no Empire Strikes Back. You'll get:
darkness, deception, explosions, a decent story, good mixed with horrible acting, kick-ass FX and yes Lucas did learn a lot, but not enough.

Seriously, if you just go in there expecting to be entertained, you'll have a good time and enjoy it. If you're expecting it to meet all these goals you've set for it, you might be diappointed.

Star Wars' appeal is most certainly not limited to fanatics. My mom wants to see Episode II and she's only fanatic about Lifetime movies.

If you go into Star Wars looking for good acting you're a fool.

Yes certainly, however Harrisson Ford was a good actor, like alec Guiness and Christopher lee.

Okay, then...not necessarily GOOD acting. Just "beyond Jake Lloyd" acting. I'd be happy with Carrie Fisher/Billy Dee Williams-acting. It just can't suck like Episode I.

Better?

Three N*Sync members are in AotC.

Attack of the Clones is not a bad name, it's very descriptive.

Jar Jar is onscreen for less than four minutes.

Attack of the Clones does a double-twisting Jedi somersault over The Phantom Menace.*

AotC will win. It rules.

*Stolen and twisted somewhat from some review, but it's very true.
