Not directly, no. But clearly this is your implication. You just don't have the guts to say it. I've explicitly told you that I was asking questions to get a better understanding of your position on a couple of topics. Your response was: "Yeah, sure, you betcha." This indicates disbelief, which means you think I'm lying. Just be a man and say it.

Nice back peddle. And I like to give the benifit of a doubt however we really weren't talking about what we were talking really were we?

B: Oh! So that's what this was really about.

A: Yes. That's what this is really about.

I would think that A was trying to tell B that yes, indeed, he was trying to have a dialogue in the face of B's skeptical question.

US football? or English football (soccer in US). US football is too rough...kill the QB even after he passed the ball. My pref is "soccer".

Well new year, new psychoticness.

The latest example is from MSNBC.

They've got a problem. President Bush released a book called "Decision Points." The book has so far sold more than two million copies in only two months. This puts it well ahead of President Bill Clinton's book in terms of pace for total sales.

The problem, finding a rationale that explains away reality.

So the talking heads on here come up with a few and in summary, they amount to....

Quote:
  • He's hated
  • People bought it as a gag
  • People received it as a gift they didn't want
  • Books are cheaper now
  • It's shorter than Clinton's

I guess they could have added stimulus in there just to be hilariously ironic. Two million people bought a book in two months, but they didn't really want it.

That is quite the break with reality.

Think about it trumpy. Look at your newspaper. People are fascinated with disasters. Train wrecks, floods, famine, earthquakes etc.

Bad news sells. Good news doesn't make good copy. It's an old rule. I'm surpised you missed it. It's why editorializing is so rampant in news now days. If something's not so bad you can always put a bad spin on it to make it more interesting.

People have been this way for a long time. It's why they went to hangings in the town square or went to gladitorial games. People eat up bad news. So they bought this book because they're Fascinated by someone so stupid, so inept, so controversial, So bad.

That's it in a nutshell. But you're so with it I'm surprised you didn't get that. Maybe you didn't want to.

I'd say their reasons are right on. I'm not surprised at all by the sales. That's reality.

But this does illustrate a point. How you view reality.

None of those examples are self-reporting.

Let me see if I understand your contention. The contention is that former President Bush wrote a book and in that book he said, "BTW, I know I've been a disaster, an incredible screw-up and here's a close up view of the trainwreck that is me."

I'd say that since the book in no form or fashion has the author declaring or explaining himself as a trainwreck or disaster, the premise is laughable.

Well they do say a good rationalization a day is better than sex!

When you get titles to artilces like " The Worst President Ever " people will eat this up. He's controversial because a lot of people hate him. They can't believe he's so bad. I'm positive people didn't buy this book because he was such a great guy. You got the principles I listed You just didn't want to go there.

This goes for books also you just don't want to admit it : http://forums.industryweek.com/showthread.php?t=1266

But nice try.

You only do that when you're desperate or irritated. Where's that trumpy who was lecturing everyone about how not to get reported by simply following the guidlines? What was it you called it in that PM you sent me a long time ago?

You keep giving these examples but they in no form or fashion relate to the book Bush wrote about himself. I can understand the concept, for example that if it bleeds, it leads. I can understand what you are saying about people intentionally being provocative to attract attention.

None of those things apply to the Bush book though. He didn't title it, "Why I'm the Worst President Ever." He didn't declare himself wrong, recalcitrant, or attempt to justify or explain any controversies real or imagined from a leftist perspective that would cause them to buy the book.

I mean you do realize that is the gist of what yourself and that article and the talking heads are putting forward. Both claim Bush sold two million books to leftists who wanted to hear his explanations about why he sucked.

Where's your copy Jimmac?

Sego gets the joke and we joke around with each other often. I took you off ignore for the New Year. Work hard to make it at least 1/2/11 before I put you back on ok.

Please! A factual book is news just like anything else and the principle still appllies even if you don't want it to.

He didn't have to title it anything. The book was written by him. It was his memoirs. That's enough.

It doesn't matter what political leanings people have. Bad news sells. A lot of Republicans wish such an Embarrassment hadn't been president as well.

I already know why he sucked. I didn't buy Nixon's either. I barrowed a copy. Why give him any more profit than he's gotten out of this debacle?

Keep rationalizing. It's hilarious!

Because I disagree with you?

I really don't care if you stick your fingers in your ears when you hear the truth because you don't like what you hear. Also you saw how much good it did last time.

It would be a typical Republican response however.

Geez!

I had forgotten about this thread. Man, jimmac was really bent out of shape. I really love reading his narratives. In addition to atrocious grammar (makes it funny, but a little hard to read), he just sort of devolves into these tangentially related justifications. He doesn't even sum up his argument.

In the last page, for example. he was arguing that government intervention was the reason that people now smoke much less than they used to. OK, fine. There is some truth to that. But as MJ would question him, he'd descend into some story about a movie and people smoking in it and being cool by smoking. Of course, what's he's really arguing there is that the government's anti-smoking message and pushing for warning labels (and what not) began to change public perception. Again, not a bad thought....but he never actually states it that way. It's just a rant. Arguing with jimmac can actually be tiring, because we have to make not only our own arguments, but his as well.

F*** off.

Are you feeling angry today? Anything you want to talk about? I just ask that because in reading some of our progressive friends' posts recently (you and BR in particular), it seems this thread is more appropriate than ever. The explosive anger is quite evident.

If there is anything you want to talk about--something that's bother you perhaps--feel free. Maybe you will feel better.

Oh, the American Right is equally psychotic in its own way, Mumbo.

The difference between the American Left and the American Right comes down to how and in which ways they want to use the government to force you to do what they want you to do.

It is a form of psychosis - a complete disconnect from reality.

The reality is that nobody can own you.

The reality is that we (all human beings everywhere) have natural rights.

The reality is that the only legitimate purpose of government is to protect those rights, not grant rights.

Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, the POTUS does not agree. He believes the Constitution is a "charter of negative liberties." He things the government should be mandated to do certain things on our behalf. He wasn't kidding when he said he wanted to "remake America."
