Question about Erasing Drives and Secure Erase

Hi

Just a quick question about erasing drives through Disk Utility. If you choose 7 pass erase or 35 pass erase, but 1/2 way through (like when it's on the 4th or 17th pass), you click SKIP, does it just skip the remaining passes OR the entire process (minus the erase). I guess my question is, do I still have 4 or 17 layers or Zero's written onto the drive?

It has already done some writing at that point... so some percentage of your HDD is going to be "securely erased", but not all of it.
If all you did is select "Erase", you'll have a blank (but formatted) drive from the point-of-view of the finder.
If you stopped in the middle of a "Format and Erase"... then you MAY end up with an unformatted drive, and have to repeat the formatting process before it is useable. (Depending on where in the process Disk Utility actually performs the formatting.)
