where is the palm rest temperature sensor located?

Hi,

According to Apple Hardware Test my Ts0P (Palm Rest Temp) sensor can't be read (see http://forums.appleinsider.com/showthread.php?t=113945).

Does anybody know where is that temperature sensor located?

The ifixit guides for my Macbook Pro A1260 mode (http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Device/M...1260)don't mention any Palm Rest temperature sensor.

I guess that is not part of the Left Thermal Sensor (http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/I...-Sensor/1323/1) as it seems to be located far away from the the palm rest area. The right thermal sensor is also far from the palm rest area.

So where is this palm rest temperature sensor Ts0P.

Thanks!

They usually glue the thermal sensors to the hard drive. Check the orange ribbon cable:

http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/I...ve-Cable/690/4

The guide says it's just the IR and sleep light but there could be a thermal sensor inside too and you'd be best gluing it (not superglue) or taping it to the drive.

It seems that there are quite a few thermal sensor inside the Macbook Pro

TB0T Battery TS_MAX Temp
TB1T Battery TS1 Temp
TB2T Battery TS2 Temp
TB3T Battery Temp
TC0D CPU 0 Die Temp
TC0P CPU 0 Proximity Temp
TG0D GPU Die - Digital
TG0P GPU 0 Proximity Temp
TG0T GPU 0 Die - Analog Temp
TG0H Left Heat Pipe/Fin Stack Proximity Temp
TG1H Left Heat Pipe/Fin Stack Proximity Temp
TN0P MCP Proximity
TN0D MCP Digital
Th2H Right Fin Stack Proximity Temp
Tm0P Battery Charger Proximity Temp
Ts0P Palm Rest Temp

Some of them are integrated in the logic board, the left/right thermal boards and some of them in the topcase!.

In this case the "Palm rest" temp sensor seems to be part of the topcase. I opened apart the mac and rechecked every connector in the topcase. I didn't notice any of them loose but when I reassembled the Macbook Pro the problem was fixed. The sensor was readable again and the fan speed went to normal.

Thx anyway.

It is located on the mother card, near the left corner - near the hard disk. They are to sensors nearby there with ca 15 mm between,

The palm left sensor is the one located nearest the hard disk.

On my computer with same problem, it was a bad cold soldering. You need high temp soldering iron, because its silver solder. It is three PIN soldering on the sensor, to on one side and the last on opposite side,

The Ts0P sensor is located in the trackpad for some unibody models.
