"Showgirls" I have it on DVD. I've seen it more than three times. It's awful in ways that other movies only aspire to. It's the "Citizen Kane" of bad movies. Absolutely jaw-dropping.

Actually, I reccommend the above two together. Equally cheesy, equally filling.

Thoth reminded me:

Singing in the car...

...especially right after work, and at top volume if I'm coming home from work really late. I can sing low and high but middle ranges -- that of most males vocalists -- escapes me. Of course I don't just sing the lyrics, but rather change them to rant, cuss and bitch along the way. It's really fun. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it.

Actually, I think your gourmand friends would approve. Only your epicurian and/or gourmet friends would view with disdain.

And he is fully aware of the badness of his film making... he has a style that always pushes the badness very consciously but in such a way that you can't tell if he means it or not. Thoth2- you think? Even taking gourmand at it's most literal usually means a rampant fondness for good food and drink.

pfflam: I can only think P.V. knew exactly what he was doing- the scene where Nomi paints her teenage-mutant-ninja-press-ons (to music usually reserved for Rambo starring on the ammo) so she can kick the crap out of the "rocker" guy who raped her friend could not have been done without a heavy dose of irony, if not a heapin' helpin' o' camp.

I may have to watch that movie again tonight...

Look no further than Robocop, another Verhoeven film. The thing is, he gets a bit sidetracked with sex and gore the the point that those aspects of his films aren't nearly as campy or ambiguous as he would think they are. but I digress...

Basic Instict is his as well.

It's typical for Dutch directors to use sex and gore in their films. "De Aanslag" (I think it was called The Assault in the US) as the exception. That's why that won an oscar

Clint Eastwood western trio, i.e. Fistful of dollars, few dollars more and the awesome Good, bad and the ugly.
Man, I must have watched those films about a zillion times, had to buy them on DVD cos the tapes were so worn out.
Also enjoy listening to Kylie Minogue, my girlfriend even buys me her CDs, though I would never admit to anyone else!
