[quote] They call it a ``Voluntary Roadside Interview.''

But for hundreds of motorists flagged down by state troopers Monday on Interstate 4, there was nothing voluntary about it.

Off-duty troopers, hired at $30 an hour, picked motorists at random and directed them to pull off the interstate into a rest stop, where Palm Pilot- toting interviewers waited.

No, this roadside checkpoint wasn't looking for drunken drivers. The survey, which will cost about $150,000, was commissioned by the Florida High Speed Rail Authority to gauge public interest in riding a proposed 120 mph bullet train.

What does it mean that it wasn't voluntary? They made you pull of the interstate and made you take a stupid survey?! that would piss me the f*** off.

What's next? A Coke vs. Pepsi taste test conducted by a SWAT team?

I had this BS happen to me a few years ago. The local sheriff department setup a roadblock for the DOT to perform a traffic survey. When I rolled down the window to find out what was going on the DOT guy started asking me questions concerning where I was going, where I came from and how many times I traveled that route. I was pissed. It was 10pm on a Sunday night, I just got off work and was trying to get my butt home. I rolled my window up and waited for the car in front of me to move... Those A**holes still piss me off everytime I think of that night.

It occurred in the US. And the article said it was legal.

But you know dumb Floridians can be.

(Note to Floridians: No offense, J/K  )

Despite the good intensions I would be royally pissed. Did they have uniforms on?

In Denmark we have discussion about the police getting free coffee in 7-Elevens and McDs on their duty right now. If they did what the article described they would either get suspended (and their bosses too if they allowed this) if they were in uniform or would be prosecuted if they weren´t in uniform. But first they would have to deal with me if they stopped me
