I know this isn't easy. You can only have one track with each group or artist. Here's mine

1) Monkey Man - The Rolling Stones
2) Everybody Hurts - REM
3) Sound Of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel
4) Heroes - David Bowie
5) Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd

And some few outsiders: Ticket to ride-Beatles, Like a Rolling Stone-Bob Dylan, Don't look back in anger-Oases, All the other Rolling Stones songs and most of Neil Young's

Oh, wow. This will be tough to narrow down.

JRC: what, no Freebird?!

[edit: Oh. I give up. I can't narrow it down from about 15-20, and I keep thinking of more.]

I'm glad you guys enjoyed my little funny.

Many times, I regret that I don't have more to offer, except my oldest registration thing. And, that's pretty old and tired.

</strong><hr></blockquote> That's on Dolittle right? What an album. Sadly I only have it on vinyl and haven't heard it for years. Great band although it somehow vanished as result of excessive heavy drug use

While JRC's list is formidable, I have to disagree. I would say these songs are without parallel in all human history:

5. Teeny Weeny Yellow Polkadot Bikini
4. Theme from Mary Tyler Moorgasm (thank you Tim Kazurinksi)
3. Anything from Mungo Jerry
2. Super-freak
1. That AWESOME Coors Light song about Twins!

5? Some hope...

Last time we did this exercise on a music board I hang out on, I had a hard time whittling it down to 100. And that's from a shortlist of 1000 or so...

wow! Another Monaco fan is on the board. Junk rulz Though it's not in my top 5.

The list changes often, but here's the most current one!

1-Pulp - This Is Hardcore
The best lyrics I've ever heard. Beautiful arrangement, Jarvis Cocker has such a voice, and I could go on and on... Pulp rocks so much!

2-REM - Drive
My favorite band, from my favorite album of all time. I just love the strings, Michael Stipe's calm voice, the mood. Well the whole song

3-Barenaked Ladies - Brian Wilson
Their first album is a classic. Goofy, but not stupid, lyrics, very rich and varied arrangement, and a whol lotta fun. This one is their best, nuff said.

4-New Order - Paradise
My current most-listening-to band. I really love this one, don't know really why.

5-Oasis - A combination of Live Forever, Aquiesce and The Masterplan
Couldn't choose between them. Sure they're not very original, but they write the best damn rock'n'roll songs. Aquiesce is my official sing-aloud song, and it's their best one live!

6-Pulp - Common People
Yes, Pulp again, and a 6th songs.. but I couldn't leave this one out... It was an instant classic when it was released, and only gets better with each listen.

I could list tens more, but I have to stop somewhere...

Have a nice whatever you want

hmmm...i dont think this'll be accurate for very long, because music chases me in shifts. despite the annotations, these are in no order; except, likely, the order i heard them most recently.

a. Kiss Off - Violent Femmes, i think this one ties with Add it Up. some grate femme songs.

2) Little Wing - a maned named `Jimi', tho i gotta say that when SRV hit that song, he did some really sweet guitar work.

iii: Third Degree - Eric Clapton, God. i'm listening now, and its incendiary. i feel his guitar in my soul.

four-Mannish Boy - Muddy Waters, and as a sidenote on this one: i saw this show at lincoln center a few years back, and the band did a version of Hootchie-Cootchie Man, a similar blues song, which could rival ol' Muddy.

fif Rubber Biscuit - performed by the Blues Brothers. its too funny not to be on my list. i heard the Chips version, and it just wasn't as good. "a wish sandwhich is that kind of a sandwhich, where you do have two slices of bread. either, rye or white or pumpernickel. and you sincerely wish you had some meat. bow bow bow." it's also funny to see dan ackroyd dance like he does.

that list is by no means final. it'll probably cease to be accurate as soon as i hear some zeppy zep, or dead, or dylan, or stones. only the majick randomizer inside of iTunes knows what the future holzs.
