It's off to Disney World for the week with the SDW clan. For those of you with whom I'm locked in the heat of verbal exchange, we'll have to hit "pause" for a week or so. Enjoy all...take care.

Thanks man. After a rough experience checking-in at the airport, I decided I couldn't live w/o wifi for two and half hours! I caved and bought it.

The story: The US Airways entire computer system (check-in) went down late last night, apparently. It was still off as of this morning. We got to the airport two hours early, and saw probably 1,000 people in line. They had maybe 20 employees doing things by HAND! They were doing curbside check-in (third party), but you needed boarding passes for that. We didn't do online check-in because we had bags to check anyway and figured it really didn't matter. So, we stood there...and finally got my wife's cousin to print our stuff and drive the passe to the airpor (he lives 15 minutes away...thank God). We did the curbside check-in, went through security, and heard "final boarding call for flight 2010 to Orlando!" WTF? They knew people were late. So we ran to the gate...just made it.

The good news is that as soon as beverage service starts, I'm ready for some jack and coke.

That didn't last long. I'd never buy a drink in flight. I can't stand to pay the cost.

Huh? Is there a Father's Day 'holiday' in the US now, or is it just bad journalism? Words mean stuff. Weekend would have been a better one.

Kind of like "socialism?" You mean words like that?

Yes, words mean stuff.

Wikipedia:

Quote:
A holiday is a day designated as having special significance for which individuals, a government, or a religious group have deemed that observation is warranted. It is generally an official (more common) or unofficial observance of religious, national, or cultural significance, often accompanied by celebrations or festivities.

In the US:

Quote:
In the U.S.A. holiday may refer to a day set aside by a nation or culture (in some cases, multiple nations and cultures) for commemoration, celebration, or other observance. Schools and businesses often close for certain holidays.

Oh look, it's even in the list.

It doesn't just mean a day you get off work because the government says so.

Yes, exactly like that. I may have been wrong about holiday (I've still only this once ever heard a non-statutory holiday used with the phrase, "holiday weekend") but I'm not the one suddenly saying Sweden is not a Socialist country at the same time he's screaming about Obama being a Socialist. Like that.

I've never called it a holiday.

Dude...I was just kidding. Relax. I agree I've not heard "Father's Day Holiday Weekend" or anything similar.

As for Sweden/Obama, I suggest you stick to the other thread.

OK. Good for you. I was simply responding to tonton who appears to have been responding to the reference to Father's Day as a holiday in an article you linked to in your post.
