Right, but in the Windows world it seems hard to imagine that happening, because windows tablets are so insignificant compared to the broader market. Apple, which is bringing it's two OSes closer into alignment more slowly is in a better position to influence developers that way - because their Tablet Computer is already outselling their Personal Computer.

I think MS may be too wedded to the PC to be able to nurture the TC.

At this point I just couldn't say. If someone told me 6 months ago that, in the next version of Windows, Microsoft would dump the UI they have been using for the last 16 years I would have laughed in their face. Microsoft just don't do stuff like that.

I probably would have kept laughing right up until the point that Microsoft demonstrated the Metro UI running across all PC form factors.

At this point Microsoft is like a wild animal with its back to the wall. They are unpredictable and known behaviors don't always apply anymore.
