Sprint briefs employees on Apple's iPhone 4 ahead of Oct. launch - Page 2

I think that Apple is finally ready to take on Android head on in the U.S. They started off slowly with only one model on one carrier. Then they expanded by offering a 3GS at a lower price point when the iPhone 4 came out essentially competing with the cheaper and low end Android phones in the sub $100 market. The next step was to add Verizon and soon (hopefully) Sprint and possibly T-Mobile.

I think it is would make a lot of sense to release both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 for Sprint. This would allow Apple to essentially offer two phone models competing at $99 or even cheaper, as well as $199 & $299 for the iPhone 5 models. That is a pretty smart and cost effective policy and allows them to compete in all price ranges.

Of course the actual cost of the phone is but a small percentage of the actual cost of ownership over two years, but I suppose some people are happy with a slightly older version to save $100 or possibly more.

I just love how folks automatically assume that people are lying. This particular rep works out of headquarters here in Virginia. I personally get invited to the headquarters testing facility in Reston 2-3 times annually and have put my hands on many devices long before they have been released. I was able to play around with the Evo months prior to the release and prior to the announcement. I was also able to see the Nexus, EVO 3d, blackberry playbook and the blackberry torch long before they were released. In fact, we have been customers so long that we actually sent all new devices on release day for us to distribute to our staff to play around with. They have not had a preview invitation in the past 3 months and I assume that is because of the iPhone but I cannot say for sure.

It's well-written, but hardly believable. Particularly the part about it having WiMAX.

Heck, people demand outgoing IP address when users claim to have received mail from Steve Jobs. We're a paranoid community… with good reason.

Sprint is having a very big announcement on October 7th. I think we might learn a lot more about the Sprint iPhone at this announcement as well. It is primarily focused on Network Vision but I think the timing also coincides with some iPhone related news as well. Not too much longer to wait.

Once the multi-mode base stations are fully deployed, this could be a real game changer. Sprint has a ton of spectrum and once all the phones on Sprint are capable of utilizing 800MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5Ghz this will allow Sprint to save billions and increase coverage and data. If Sprint can pull off the network vision update according to plan, they will be very competitive with Verizon and far surpass AT&T in coverage. Sprint will finally be able to fully utilize all their spectrum and the huge amount of cell phone towers they operate under one banner instead of two like they have been doing with Nextel.

Multi-mode base stations also easily allow Sprint to cheaply and easily add LTE into the mix as well keeping WiMax as a backhaul for data. WiMax and LTE can easily coexist very well together. They are not an either/or proposition like many people seem to think.

Personally I think she is wrong with respect to the WiMAX as well but I think she is correct with respect to it being dual mode, GSM/CDMA. I also think she is correct that there was 2 separate iPhone models that will be available, a revamped 4 dual mode and a 5 dual mode.

Today's rumor of a iPad based on sprint with possible WiMAX does make for an interesting turn.

Oh, sure. Open up your e-mail client Um, hopefully you can do this with Mail. If not, all clients have the ability to show this info, I just don't know how to do it on any but Mail. My instructions'll be based on Mail, but the terminology should be the same.

Open that e-mail. Somewhere there should be a clickable option to show more details about the message.

The red's what we care about. Server from which the message was sent and the IP address from which the message was sent (so we can see if it's Sprint's server). Obviously black out absolutely everything else for both her sake and yours.

That's THIRTY IPAD MODELS, though. There's NO way.

I count 24 SKUs: 6 for Verizon, 6 for Sprint, 6 for AT&T (GSM-based), and 6 for WiFi-only.

I haven't heard any rumours that convince me that T-Mobile is on the table. Since it's just the addition of the AWS band I'd think they'd just fold that into the GSM-based model.

I also would be surprised if the Sprint and Verizon iPads are just flashed differently for sale, but retain the same SKUs since there is no HW change, save for WiMAX which I think is not going to happen.

Looking at mail in Lion and I see no such options. All I have is a hide option and an inbox option. All it shows is from subject date to but no other information. Sorry.

You only get the bare minimum details unless you have enable View » Message » All Headers in Mail.

Yeah, that's what I showed him (and how to get that to appear). He says that all he sees is 'Hide', which means whatever can show is already showing.
