That will never happen until 2013 at the very earliest. And again as people point out that's assuming ARM and PowerVR stand still.

Yeah, currently its not a good idea since atom as is isn't designed to be used in smartphones, but with a new architecture coming out, I think it holds promise:

Silvermont holds some hope for Intel in the mobile and tablet space, but it needed to be out on 22nm yesterday. Don't get me wrong, Intel could come back hard but we're looking at late 2012 at the earliest for anything competitive. Again, who knows, maybe Intel will just throw boatloads of cash at manufacturers as usual and We'll have ARM-PowerVR iOS devices and Intel-?GPU-Android for everything else that's not cheapo ARM crapblets.

Android needing to cater for x86 will be a good distraction for Google now starting to spread themselves quite thin. Honeycomb will never be out for smartphones, and Ice Cream Sandwich is still a dream away. Not to mention Google having the weight of Motorola's businesses to clean up.

Things could not be better for Apple. Unbelievable, almost.

Honeycomb was never intended for smartphones, so you're right. You won't ever have Honeycomb shipping on one. Ice Cream Sandwich is launching with the Samsung Nexus Prime at Verizon next month according to press reports.

Apple should go ahead and buy AMD. That way they control their own destiny, and won't get stabbed in the back.

Apple does not need to buy AMD or ARM. They have a lifetime ARM patent agreement to use any and all technolgies as well as bring their own inventions to the ARM design (and still keep it private). A very powerful agreement.

Intel is working to product much less power consuming chips to support Apple. The mountain comes to Mohamad!!!

Just a thought,

Or...Watch your back, Apple.

I can't wait to run Windows 8 on my Intel smartphone while dualbooting Android. On a Samsung Galaxy Note! With a keyboard case or something and a dock and connected to a TV. Who knows, maybe hackers will even get OS X running on it, after all it's Intel.

Wait a second...why do I need a Mac again? Hm.

I already find many things easier to do on my Droid than even my Mac and certainly my iPad. (I find iOS disorganized and frustrating to use compared to Android on my iPad 2). Windows 7 also has a few advantages over OS X at last, like Resolution Independence (system-wide zooming in).

Yeah, I was telling your story to my mom, a lawyer who loves her iPad, and she is sold. She's just wondering, though, would it be a bit of a bother installing all these different OSes on her Intel Smartphone running the unreleased Windows 8, and dualbooting the hideous Android Tablet OS. Because, if so, she couldn't be assed.

Still though the market for people who install Android on an iPad, iOS on an intel box,Ubuntu on their DVD player, and Windows 8 on a ( as yet unreleased and un-announced) intel smartphone is probably in the tens to hundreds so Apple may have to careful. Just not very careful.

Actually. I've thought this over.

let's be honest they shouldn't really give a damn.

Its uncanny how future Microsoft products beat current Apple products time and time again, isnt it?

Apologies to Ayush and the Macalope.

Actually, why do you need a Mac? Given that most of your posts are about how Android or Windows or whatever is better is so many ways, gives you a better experience, is more amenable to your style of computing, doesn't have the pitfalls and frustrations of Apple's way of doing things, etc., why dick around with Apple stuff?

Honest question, I think everyone should use what they like, it just seems as if you like non-Apple stuff most of the time and just keep Apple hardware around to make unflattering comparisons.

For my uses, Mac is the best desktop/laptop.

But I was surprised at what Android can do iOS can not, and how user-friendly it is, for perhaps even the casual user. It seems like there are very few Mac Android users. I implore everyone that has an iPhone to check out an Android phone.

AppleInsider is like AndroidHater these days. It seems whoever (DED?) is writing AI articles hates Google more than Microsoft!

Well, I've always wanted a phone that could be like a little computer. Android is it. Android with Atom, more so...if they get it right.
