Please help, Problem with Appearance and mic.

I have been having problems with appearance on my iMac. It won't let me load a desktop image (I'm using mac os 8.5), instead, when I try to load one in the preview, it shows up pink.

Also my microphone in my iMac (rev.a) won't work, and an audio app called SoundEdit says that the drivers for it are not there, what does this mean? As I can find no drivers on my system CDs and it worked before.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

I can't help with the mic, but as for the desktop pic...

The pink shows up in preview when you use a GIF with transparency. The pink shows up instead of the transparent parts. Try using appearance to select that picture, and then set as desktop. Does the background show through?

Hopefully this is what is happening, and there's nothing wrong. I personally think the ability to use gifs with transparency is a nice feature.
