Hmmm... exactly what I was thinking. People you don't know personally but the impact they make on your life is so profound that you feel extremely close to them.

I've enjoyed reading the stories and comments on AI for years but this is the first time I've felt compelled to post. My condolences to the family. Steve Jobs, your legacy will be felt for a long, long time. The word genius gets thrown around a lot but only a few people actually fit that description. You led the pack. R.I.P.

RIP Steve. You made our lives something we never dreamed they would be.
You can't spell appeal without Apple.

Condolences to the immediate family.

For those of us who have been with Apple for over 30 years, we share a common loss today.

I got this from Eduardo Pellegrino in the comments section at Asymco website, so I don't want to take credit. Perhaps not the right words, but good words:

Per ardua ad astra — Through struggles, to the stars

Steve,

I am so sad about your passing. It won't be the same world without you. We who admire you and cherish your presence in this world will attempt to live in your spirit.

My condolences to Steve Jobs' family and friends. He dented the universe and made it so much fun. He will be missed.

Indeed this is a sombre moment, but I feel incredible sense of peace. He died a supernova; extinguished at the peak of his career, his influence will pervade the entire known universe.

Although we never met in person he was the most influential man in my life. He truly changed the world. And me.

RIP Steve

...and everyone screw your corporate dress code tomorrow and wear a black turtleneck, jeans, & running shoes to work. Make sure the jeans are just a smidge too short and be sure to push the sleeves on your turtleneck up to mid forearm.

It's not just technology that Steve brought to us, but the great people in this forum, and many like this, that have been influenced by him in so many ways and for us to say so many awesome things about this great man.

In my early high school days my Mom, going against the grain, bought an Apple IIe. Needless to say, my life has been much better because my Mom thought the world of such a machine and the vision of Apple and Steve at that time.

Thanks to Steve and my Mom, tomorrow will be a better day.

To everyone to whom Steve was special,

Our sincerest condolences. Our thoughts are with you, we share your grief.

A central tenet of Steve's life and one from which he didn't veer, was never to do harm. He enriched us all, made us laugh, made us think, empowered us to be better individuals, colleagues and collaborators.

Words cannot express our sadness but can express our gratitude. Steve, thank you.

Steve... Your best contributions are yet to come... When all the seeds you've planted begin to sprout and then, in turn, bear fruit.

Thanks.

He handled his leaves and his resignation gracefully, trying hard to do the best thing for the company he loved. He hung on as CEO until a month before his death, just long enough to see his company become the most valuable in the world. He probably also helped Tim Cook prepare for his first public appearance as CEO -- there seemed to be some Steve in his performance. I'll bet he participated in design and strategic decisions until just about his last day. He considered it a privilege to go to work each day, and was having the most fun of his life in his job. He hung on as long as he could. Namaste, Steve.

I dreaded this day; Steve Jobs was my hero. However, he was very loved and his time was very fruitful, and needless to say he has put his mark on the planet forever. Steve Jobs, you're an inspiration!
