is there a way to automate the text-to-speech function to save itself as a .wav file? i need to do this for my car's mp3 player and would like to find an easy way to do it. thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by automate.

Here is one configuration that should work. Maybe that will give you some ideas.

If you use the Griffin iMic then connect the output to the input. In the sound control panel (OS 9) select USB audio for both input and output.

Get Coaster (free) from Version Tracker.

Start recording with Coaster.

Start the text to speech going with whatever program does that. (Tex-Edit Plus does a nice job.)

When the text is done then stop recording, save the file, convert the AIFF file to MP3 with iTunes or to some other format with another program.

Most all of the above could be automated with Applescript.

thanks neutrino. what i was really hoping for was something that would just create a .wav file from the text directly. that way i wouldn't have to edit the in and out points of file.
