Remove Pop Up/unders

Thread Starter
Where can I find software for IE 5.1.3 running on an iMac with OS 10.1.3 that will eliminate the annoying pop up/under ads that seem to have taken over the internet?

Thanks

John

Well you could turn off Javascript.

Or run a different browser that had preferences for pop up windows (I forget which has this).

Some of the advertisers have preferences for this but not all. That one for the camera the seemed to be everywhere last year had a preference where you could turn it off through a cookie setting...

Mozilla also has options to turn off pop up/under windows too:

iCab also does this, and it allows you to do it on a server-level. I.e., popups are generally enabled, with the exception of known offenders (MacCentral, anyone?). This is nice because some sites like CNN use popups to display poll results, etc.

Will block any/all of: cookies, popups, fast refreshes, ads/banners, urls, etc etc.

Combine this with mozilla, which will open new windows in tabs if configured correctly, and you can kiss all of the web's annoying traits goodbye.
I use this with a caching proxy (saves web pages/images, and grabs them from ram/cache instead of the web) to speed up my already fast web connection.

browser -&gt; Junbuster -&gt; Squid cache -&gt; teh interweb.

My junkbuster config, which blocks ads from all sites I visit (including AI boards, theregister.co.uk, MOSR.com, etc) can be seen <a href="http://www.stimuli.ca/linux/ijb.action" target="_blank">here.
</a>
I'll write a tutorial on this soon.

No, the bazaar cannot satisfy users. Neither can the cathedral. Nothing can satisfy users, because software is written to enable rather than satisfy, and because most users are mewling malcontents...

iCab's been working great for me. Is IE 5.1.3 scriptable? If it is you could create an AppleScript to turn off java script when you run into offenders. Then create another to turn it back on. Just a thought...
I know a guy from nantucket, and well lets just say the stories about him are greatly exaggerated.
