We can deduce Apple will release a 3rd generation iPad in 2012 and we should assume it will at the same timeframe as the previous models which makes starting to produce the new models before the end of the year likely, especially considering the rumours of when Apple started stockpiling iPhone 4S and how quickly they've rolled out the 4S release.
We also know Apple didn't update the iPod Touch this year, which makes sense if you don't want the Touch to muddle your flagship device's release. I bring this up because I don't think the Touch was simply skipped for a year, just moved to a latter date. But what about adding a 2nd iPod Touch size? Apple said a smaller tablet wouldn't make sense but what about a 2nd PMP size? Sure, this does have its pitfalls with the display sizes/resolutions for developers but that tells me this is why you'd want to refer to this inclusion as an ebbing PMP market not an expanding tablet market.
