The best way to data transfer to/from a G4and ibook

the situation: A G4 with a DVD-RAM drive that backs up all the data on the G4(often). A new ibook for the road that needs to share all data with the G4 (including to be backed up on the DVD-RAM).
What is the best way to trade data from the 2 machines? Fire-Wire? a Network?
Thanks

Either one will work. With OS X transferring over the network is quite fast. Transfers by FW are extremely fast. It is mostly a matter of convenience.

FW transfer mode is easier. You shut down the iBook, connect the FW cable, start up the iBook and hold down the T key till you see the FW logo floating around the screen. Within a few seconds icons for all the partitions on your iBook will be mounted to the desktop of the G4. This bypasses all the login dialog and passwords and gives you full access to the iBook.

I just use click and drag to move files. For regular backups you may want to use some utility or an Applescript to make sure you don't miss anything.

The OS of the host must be 8.6 or higher. Here is the word from Apple's Knowledge base.
