Yes, I think you can either set-up a software basestation on one computer or set-up a peer-to-peer connection via wireless...

If both computers are FireWire capable, you can get a FireWire cable and boot one computer while holding down the T-key...and have one computer's HDD appear on the other...

The PowerBook is a lombard (no FireWire), but I'm having trouble figuring out how to set up the PowerMac as my Base Station. Thank's for the help though. AirPort Admin Util is vague. I'm going to keep playing for a while. If anyone can give up any added advice on this I'll be checking back.
Thanx Again

OS X doesn't have the software basestation feature yet, so you have to be in OS 9. There should be some kind of an option to set-up a network between those two computers only as well. I don't think it's in the Admin Utility, but in the AirPort app itself.

A cross over cable could do the trick too. Also, I haven't tried it in X yet but in 9 you can just turn on file sharing and set the sharing for the CD you insert. Then you can access it on your other computer. Very easy to do.

That explained all my trouble right there.

Thanks Eugene.
