Sure sound sinteresting. However, can they really stick to the $999 price point with that size TFT display? If so, they are going to sell like crazy. Too bad they didn't wrap things up in tim efor the holiday season, though.

Not really much new.

Pretty much all of what was said in the article has been predicted. It also has conveniently allowed for three flexible release dates.

The big surprise would be if it wasn't released at MWSF in January.

The 750FX depends on the 130nm SOI process to be finalized. look what an IBM guy said about it. This story at EETimes talks about Intel and IBM's SOI plans.

Bijon Davari is vice president of technology and emerging products at IBM. Interesting. I wonder what the first chip IBM will have rolling off the lines with this process?

Well, the iMac has to sell for less than a PowerMac G4, considering its the "Consumer" line of Apple's products.

Given that TFT screens are more expensive than their CRT counterparts, it wouldn't be surprising to see the price tag hover in the $1,300+ area. :|

But a GHz iMac would be cool. I hope that they can make it a wee bit more expandable, though. Being able to add 1 more drive would be nice.

It's going to make the TI look expensive.

I think if Apple does come out with a flat panel iMac in January they will change more than just the monitor. Really, how different would a flat panel iMac be from one of their laptops? I would rather have the portabilibty of the iBook. I think to have this make sense Apple will really have to boost the media features that are not offered on the laptops. I think they will build in excellent speakers and some features that tie in with their stated objective of developing a "digital hub". Maybe they will build in TV capture and record abilities like avialable with Sony's top PCs, Tivo or ATI's All-in-Wonder card.

There's a pretty large thread on the LCD iMac article <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000137" target="_blank">here</a>; let's try to keep all article discussion in one thread.

thanks
