Partial water damage, can I claim a new one?

My iphone 4 has sustained some partial water damage. I can only see a half circle in the headphone jack but no indicated at the bottom end. Should I see both?

The phone still works however some things dont. eg it won't play audio in speaker mode and the sleep wake button doesn't work. Will I be able to get Apple to replace it within the warranty? If not how much am I looking at for repair via Apple?

Apple won't replace or repair water damaged items under warranty - you need to have insurance for that. If your phone was bought recently, you can possibly still sign up to an insurance service and then make a claim in a month or two. You shouldn't really do that of course but you'll probably pay it back over the course of your policy.

The part seems to vary in price between $5-100 on eBay. I'd expect Apple to charge somewhere between $100-200 for the repair. You could try to do it yourself and it would cost $5 but you would invalidate your warranty if anything else happened to the phone.

I got the phone literally 2 weeks ago. I'm basically on holiday now and will be back in around 2 more weeks. You think they will let me still take out insurance after this time? If so then ill try that first before going to Apple.

Most of them will only let you take out insurance if your phone is less than 6 months old but that's fine for this case. Some will let you insure products at any time - you can check if your bank offers free phone insurance with your account. You will have to wait 2-3 weeks before you can make a claim on a new policy anyway so even if you'd signed up when you bought the phone, you likely wouldn't have been able to claim straight away.

He obviously KNEW this before hand, as he's looking for the water indicator before he even "return"s the phone.
Would you expect the warranty to cover damage if you ran over your phone with a train?

My iPhone sustained lots of water damage about a week ago. I was looking online, and saw that since I pay for the Verizon insurance protection plan, water damage is covered. I don't know about AT&T.
