In the Jessica Ahlquist thread, I ironically said that the bullying assholes that required her to have a police escort were Christians being Christians--key word: ironically. Here's a story of Christians actually behaving like Christians at Chicago's gay pride parade a few years back. Instead of hatefully telling all the gays they were going to hell, these Christians publicly apologized for their hateful brethren.

You no longer get to fly under the radar while outspoken hateful asshole Christians make the lives of gays and atheists miserable. If you aren't speaking out against those humanoid pieces of shit, you are part of the problem.

Thank you, compassionate Christians in Chicago. You give me a little hope.

Well, shit.

Maybe some of the members don't believe the leader's message--but fuck--this is some insidious hate here. Instead of yelling the gay out of people, the leader wants to hug the gay out of people. Fuck him and fuck them.

I really was so happy that it seemed like some real Christ-lovers were out there making a real difference that I got too excited and didn't bother to fact-check. I made a very religious mistake--I desperately wanted it to be real and I didn't dig around right away before posting. Just because I want it to be real doesn't make it so. Fuck those guys.

BR, I think the splinter in your mind is this. If you look at quotations directly attributed to Jesus, it has virtually no real link to modern Christianity.

Let's look at the Bible. The Old Testament has nothing to do with Jesus. The Quran has little to do with Jesus, though referring to him in (to me) cryptic ways as "Nabi Isa" (The Prophet Jesus).

The New Testament, has extremely long and rambling monologues attempting, in my view, to both adapt Old Testament and existing views to that of Jesus, and also to codify some of the things Jesus supposedly said.

Spirituality has a certain pattern. Some people can feel it in them, and use religion as a very loose guide to reinforce what they innately feel. Some people don't feel it. The majority, require a fairly codified structure to form a basis of what's right and wrong.
