That's funny, I hook up USB devices to my iPad all of the time. You should check out something called the CCK, made and sold by Apple.

Did Apple say they sold out? If not, this simply could be the result of some unexpected delay for the online orders?

Sold out as in the demand has exceeded the supply that can be delivered by March 16th. Whether that's because of a warehouse fire destroying 1 million units or because of a bottleneck in shipping it's essentially sold out for pre-orders for that day.

This is a technological leap never before seen in the entire history of tech. How's that for a fucking insignificant upgrade?

The display will be like looking at a full color print magazine. I look forward to getting mine, as I'm sure everybody else who has one on the way also is looking forward to theirs.

I agree that the display, even if that was the only change, makes it worthwhile. For the display is the core of the whole tablet experience.

I disagree with the magazine comparison. For resolution, yes. But having the image backlit and with better contrast, it will simply be the best image anyone has every seen in the world. Period.

You might be right. I guess that we'll all know next friday when people start to get theirs delivered.

I was basing my comment on several comments from people who had actually seen the screen and used it, those who were lucky enough to be at the live event. I haven't seen or used it myself yet.

I think his comment is that the shipping companies are getting the items to ship but Apple is asking them to delay shipping. Like originally my FedEx tracking number says the shipping type is overnight delivery and it should arrive by the 12th but now there is a delivery exception of "Future delivery requested" and now it's bumped to the 16th.

i rather agree with this. I don't need to have a Finder to see the files but it would be nice if they went to one common bin so if I decide, for example, to change PDF readers, the files don't have to be emailed to myself or synced to the computer and back. they are just there ready to go

sorry but this is wrong. It's trilogy then prequel. then prequel to the prequel, then spin off of the original and then reboot the whole thing with a British cast all pretending to be Americans.

In Singapore, one of the countries for 16th March launch, is now seeing all iPad models ship date slips to 22nd March. It's likely an indication of very strong demand, esp. when many iPad 1 users skipped the upgrade to iPad 2 last year.

I'm iPad 1 Black 16GB WiFi owner (imported one from the US shortly after launch) who skipped iPad 2 last year.

I'm in the UK and I ordered mine on the early hours of Thur 8/3 -- White 32GB WiFi + 4G from the education store online (for a discount - I also have accessories ordered at the same time). At first, it says delivers on 16/3 but yesterday afternoon, I got an e-mail saying that it has been bumped to 20/3 Tue. The order page though still listed them as 'processing items' - delivers on March 16.

My iPad includes engraving and now I regret making a change to the text on Friday morning. They probably manage to ship it to me on launch date had I don't made that changes. Sigh

The actual text from the e-mail:

Dear .....

Despite our best efforts and those of our shipping partners to get your order to you on time, we want to inform you that it will not arrive on its originally scheduled delivery date.
Your new delivery date is 20/03/2012.

Once you receive your Shipment Notification email, you can check the delivery status of your order by clicking the Track Shipment button, or by visiting the Apple Store and clicking Account.

We regret the delay and apologise for the inconvenience.

Kind regards,
Apple Online Store

I guess all the extra cargo planes from DHL only heading to NA and we Brits have to settle with the extra large size boat

If we hear about no other push backs I would assume it's because of your engraving. As for the boat comment I wonder how many weeks it would take a cargo ship to travel from China to the UK. I'm thinking a good 3 weeks.

No, you have it wrong. Samsung says that the Note is a better comparison to the iPad than the Tab. And since the Note allows you to have 2 apps side-by-side and has a stylus, it's a better content creation device than the iPad.

And people accuse Apple of having a reality distortion field? Really?

I
Just want apple back to creatives. F%ck the baring dogs, clueless Specislist re logic, Shake, FCP. PRO TOOLS is native now. Can run on any hardware. It was so much cooler. No rainbows, just artists, graphic artsy types, ad Exec's, musicians and that's slipping away.

Ok. We all know macs aren't big on games. Mary got them bet with direct x but hate of consoles and like gaming consoles like ps3 and ps4 due this summer.

Modern Warfare sold
1 billion in the 1st 16 days at $60 and $99 a pop. It's bigger than music and movies combined
And now that the iPad which will be my first (knew 4g would come and never fell for the upgrade ever time poop. I want to see Apple get back into creative. Shoot half he theaters are gone in the new stores. They pay a little more than minimum wage, tell you on a grand opening you have to run outside up and down the street like a dodo and for what. A good promo for the chairmen??? Where's the upgrade to iWeb? Tv/cable going done in flames and those that can edit and do web design will be well off and know after affects.

And why does every new event have hot air balloons, snow and hardly anyone in America.

I remember and it wasn't that long ago, macs were made in the US.
Shocker. A real shocker I know.
Yet we design all the cool stuff???

They could have went so deep with smart instruments but didn't.
Maybe some else will pick up the ball for logic and pro tools. P

I'm in the UK and ordered a Black 32GB WiFi with engraving around the same time you did. I've just received notification from Apple that it is shipped for delivery on 16th March. I guess you are correct that your engraving alteration has delayed shipping. Sad!

For the aussies, it's slipped to "by March 22". For those of us who got in early, like moi it's showing as before, "Delivers between March 16-22 via Standard Shipping". At least I won't have to worry about queuing up on the 16th at the only Apple Store within a few thousand miles in any direction.

Also, my Mass Effect 3 for Xbox360 should be on its way from the UK(?) (Ozgameshop)... Saw it in the ~equivalent of Wallmart here yesterday, which was very surprising. Anyway I'll wait for mine to be delivered, might arrive at the same time or maybe before the iPad [3]. I'm all first world problem'd up in here. Never felt better.

Good times to come.

Yeah, same for Australia. Good to see Singapore now on first-tier-country iPad launch status. Be sure to keep an eye out for tons of Malaysians invading to get the new iPad, not out in Malaysia even after 2nd round of iPad launches.

This is first time I've ordered on per-order. Stayed up till 1am waiting for the UK to come back online (Apple launches seem to equate to denial of service attack). This morning I received a text saying my delivery has shipped ... Gone from 38 years old to 8. Like a kid waiting for Christmas.

Dam you Apple

Got my shipping confirmation yesterday and it's being shipped via FedEx but the tracking didn't show anything until just a few minutes ago. It's already in Nashville. Too bad it looks like it's not going anywhere until the 16th. Under Details is says "Future delivery requested."

I received an email from Apple this morning with the tracking info that my iPad 3 has been shipped from Middletown, PA by FedEx standard overnight delivery and I should be getting it on Monday or Tuesday. So, Apple is ahead of schedule on delivering their products. My Apple TV has not been shipped yet and is still showing March 16 as the delivery date.

Same here only from 54 to 4

I've read a few stories regarding those early orders that end up in the hands of their respective buyers ahead of Apple's delivery date. Just for the record, has anyone ever got their shipment early?

Odd...

I ordered a CCK and a charger for my granddaughter on the same order as the new iPad and AppleTv.

The CCK and charger shipped yesterday from China and went directly to Memphis (where it was cleared) and is in transit -- it will deliver on the 13th.

The iPad was picked up today at Ontario, CA (60 miles East of LA) -- it shows delivery on the 16th.

The iPad is still processing and shows delivery on the 16th.

The 2 shipments are FedEx -- no DHL.

This tells me that some iPads were preshipped and cleared to Ontario rather than through Alaska and Oakland, CA -- the normal routing of Apple shipments from China to the SF Bay Area.

I worked for Lockheed at the Ontario airport in 1960-1963... And there was no massive storage/warehousing facility anywhere nearby... Except, Lockheed had 4 massive hangars that, each could house 3 Constellation size planes... I wonder...

Has anyone else noticed that their iPad is shipping from the US.

I expect to see Apple implement an iOS feature that allows:

1) An app to register the type of files it can handle

2) The user when creating or sharing a file to optionally allow other apps access (read, write, none)

Hi guys,

Got a quick question:

Are these new Apple products often sold out right after launch?
I'm going to Tampa, Florida the 23rd, and was planning to buy a new iPad, but won't get my hopes too high if they usual sell out right after launch!

I hope you americans can share your experience with that

Thanks in advance

Usually sold out...

Apple, often, on its web site, posts a list of stores that have new product in stock...

Some people bounce around among resellers -- BestBuy, Target, Radio Shack...

You may get lucky and call in and have them hold/reserve a model for you!

Worth a try!

Good luck!

I might call one of the stores a few day before departure. I guess that's the limit for them to hold a model.
They wont come to Denmark in a few months, and as a photographer I've waited sooo long on this so I thought it was perfect timing for my trip and the new release

According to USA Today demand for the new iPad is off the charts and there is a limit of 2 per customer. Makes me wonder why was it necessary to add a limit on the number of tablets any one customer can buy at a time. I cannot wait until the first sales figures come out. LOL

In Singapore, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, 3rd Generation iPad, there was a quantity limit at launch/pre-orders.
Over here it's totally necessary. And here is why:

As of 9th March, 1 day after the product announcement, the delivery date has already slipped to 22nd March.
As of now 11th March, 3 days after the product announcement, the delivery date has already slipped to 2-3 weeks.

That's how crazy the demand is over here. And the retail stores are already filled with long waiting list orders. Won't be surprise to see a crazy queue on 16th March, expecting it to be more crazy than iPad 2 launch.

Note: The 7th March (US time) product announcement is actually wee hours (to be exact, 0200hrs) of 8th March Singapore time.

Not being able to upload a photo to a website is a major pain in the ass. Every content management platform now has to have their own iOS app just because you cannot upload photos through the browser. That is why we have a Craigslist app, a Wordpress app, a Facebook app, a match.com app etc, etc. Why? Simply because you cannot get at your photos from within the browser. This crap is annoying. Do people really think this is a better system than a real computer?
