Yes, but you wouldn't know it. When you look at the Apple Store there you see a bunch of people at the top of the stairs and a bunch of police officers at the bottom of the stairs (one set of stairs is cordoned off with the velvet rope).

If you try to go up the stairs you are directed to the line which is about a 100 yards out of the way along one of the metro north tracks. They must be letting people in with passes or something as they have room upstairs. It looked like a sea of people by the train tracks. I have no idea how far back it went.

Eaton Centre is not too busy but there is short wait to get in. Perhaps I should say that the store opened two hours ago, and now seems like a better time to stop by to get your new iPad. The 3rd floor of the mall does seem a bit unusually busy considering there is only that one certain store open. LOL There is also no less than two tv news crews outside the store.

That's Woz... He is a very open individual and likes to mingle with people who appreciate well-designed technology. I think he enjoys being a celebrity but doesn't let it turn his head...

She did a great job. She was familiar with his past line waiting, seemed interested and happy to be interviewing him, and asked a wide range of relevant questions. Plus she's damn cute.

It's interesting that Woz has been buying the low capacity iPads up and until today.

In the video he seems to elude to personal issues with Jobs but quickly turns that into a lot of championing of what Jobs has done for him, computing, and the world at large. He definitely seems like a great guy... but I still can't imagine waiting in a line if I don't have to. Not having to wait in lines was primary goal in becoming independently wealthy.

Lining up is not really a Canadian thing. Even having a hundred people at the Centre is like having 600 people in NYC. Vancouver's Apple store has about 60-70 people which is a long line by Canadian standards.

The girl did a fine job asking questions, the filming seemed low budget mostly. Yeah... But, sometimes you need to go out amongst 'em to see and hear what's really happening... As opposed to reading a blog or watching a YT video.

The nearest Apple store is 30 miles, so I order online... But for the iPad 2, I visited the local BestBuy and Target stores just to gage the interest.

Waiting in line, talking, joking -- is an excellent opportunity to get genuine opinions about a product/company in which you are heavily invested... And, in its own way, it's fun!

I think he just wants to be surprised along with every one else. The guy walks around with 8 freaking phones all the time because he likes the different features they have and he's just like a lot of us in loving to play with his gadgets. So if he gets a prerelease he would have been done with the excitement when everyone else is just getting into it.

You could take it a step further by having someone go into a Samsung store. The punch line is the customer and the salesperson struggle to make the sale because of the massive piles of boxes of unsold inventory being in the way.

I got to agree. There were a few potentially embarrassing pauses which were quickly and smoothly traversed. I mean, there really isn't much to say, is there? Everybody knows everything about the iPad so there aren't many intelligent questions that can be asked. And the whole issue of Woz being there... again, not much to say without it getting very awkward. I would have liked to have heard a few words from Woz's wife, however. She was there wasn't she?

Hmmm... I am not so sure. Couldn't you just go to a bar and find someone there to talk to? You could do all of the above while being waited upon with alcohol of your choice. And then you can fall asleep in your bed after you have drunkenly ordered the top of the line iPad....

At 8:10 AM I drove past my local ATT and Bestbuy to check for lines...

ATT = 0
Bestbuy = roped area with 3 people

Not all locations get the crowds. The Apple store is 1 hour south and I am sure there was a line there.

From what I've heard from a friend he just got back from buying his at the Applestore in Zurich and there wasn't any lines. The store was full but no more then usual. I wonder if everybody new. Best case scenario because those who wanted iPad's got them. Yay no mass hysteria over a mediocre update.

I love Woz. Even though he co-founded one of the most successful tech company of all time and is loaded, he seems to be just a regular guy enjoying his retirement.

Btw, one of the things I'm noticing most while surfing on my new iPad is how low resolution some icons and pics are on the web. Looks like webmasters are going to need to update their stuff!

What an inspiration and an exemplary attitude for eschewing favouritism and nepotism.

1. There's no proof he could just get one straight from Apple. It's possible that he can't but he's not mentioning that detail

2. Even if he can, he doesn't get all free press and attention that way. It is possible that he does the line etc for that, which is why he always manages to get photographed etc. As he says, he could just order it online/pre-order it.

Woz was a co-founder of Apple but frankly he hasn't done anything for the company is ages. Except get attention due to that association. He seems to use it every chance he gets for attention and acknowledgement. Any actual anything that he's done since he left Apple always seems brief and is tinted with "co founder of Apple" because that thing isn't enough on its own. He often comments on things Apple that he should be keeping his mouth shut in accordance with Apple's desire to have no one but official Apple speaking for the company and lets face it as a co-founder common folks often think his personal comments are Apple comments when it comes to Apple stuff. Especially when 'co founder of Apple' is right there by his name.

I'm sure he's a lovely person but it is time for him to move on and either get out of the limelight or use something else to get it.
