Apple's Siri tells users Nokia Lumia 900 is 'best smartphone ever' - Page 2

Because the iPhone is in a league by itself.

There are cell phones.
There are smart phones.
Then there are iPhones.

If you say, "what is the best smartphone," without the word ever, you get one of Siri's real answers: "I think you've already answered that question, (your name)," or, "Wait, there are other phones?" The word "ever" somehow changes it to a WolframAlpha lookup.

That's a response pulled from Wolfram Alpha, which is the backup resource if Siri can't find the info herself.
Siri is not a search engine (as such) anymore than your browser is a search engine. It is simply an interface.
It gets search results from Wolfram Alpha, Google, Yahoo! Bing and others.

Remember, Siri is in beta and this is obviously a serious bug; I'm sure Cook and company will fix it soon lol.gif

Recently, I have witnessed a decline in both your accuracy, your reporting and the decisions that are made regarding what to report on. As it stands, other Apple sites have started to use you as the butt of some rather amusing jokes mostly revolving around the rumors you post and the excessive excitement that goes into reporting on something like a SIM card tray.

This is just about the last straw for me. I'm about to jump ship and stick to sites that actually have relevant information and vet their rumors more thoroughly.

Please go back to the way you were a few years ago, when I could rely on what you were reporting and you made a concerted effort to follow up on rumors before you posted anything.

This shows a complete lack of investigative journalism and makes you no better than the National Enquirer of Apple Rumors.

Get it together.

Best thing written on this website in months! I couldn't agree more.

Isn't obvious that a T-mobile phone will tell you that iPhone is not the best?

Carriers don't have any say in the data that crosses their devices.

FWIW - As a MacAddict but also Nokia Lumia 900 owner... laughing, it's funny how you poor fanboys are all up in arms over this...  :)

Siri your "Beta" status has just been demoted to "Charlie"!

1.  You didn't read the thread.  No one is "up in arms over this."

2.  You clearly aren't a "MacAddict" or you wouldn't be gloating.

3.  I am a "fan" of Apple.  Anyone who is a technophile loves Apple.  The concept that Apple's competitors don't have "fanboys" suggests to me that those companies have poor customer retention resulting from poor customer service, poor product reliability, poor user interfaces and a poor developer and consumer ecosystem.  I am really disappointed by the consumer electronics industry when a aspirational brand known for niche products is constantly and endlessly compared favorably to entire industries.  You should be ashamed of yourself for not being an Apple "fanboy" and supporting Apple's competitors simply because they offer cheaper, poorly made products that they don't support.  Shameful and disgusting.

Let's see now.  Who could those four reviewers be?

1. Steve Ballmer

2. Bill Gates

3. Stephen Elop

4. Randall Stephenson

Good luck with that whole Windows Phone thing, guys.

Actually this is news. Siri has developed the ability to give a sarcastic response to a dumb question.

Are you kidding? AI not only posted it, they wrote a whole post about it, calling it an "issue". Might as well ask Siri to find dark matter near you.

Feels good to fantasize about your enemies getting up in arms doesn't it? Yeah... They're so secretly jealous of your Windows Phone, and all 38 apps available on it. So jealous.

So sad to see AI report this click bait. I asked Siri this exact question and got a completely different answer. Oh and when Siri reported back what I said smartphone came back as two words not one. So I call BS on this.

It does work! But only if you add Wolfram to the beginning of the question. Tested it on my iPhone 4S and confirmed.

Me too. And I haven't found a way for Siri to treat smartphone as one word.

Siri, when did you smoke your last joint?

P-f-f-f-f-f-f-t.... aaaahhhh....

Siri!

...wha'???

Siri keeps offering me restaurants… I think she's trying to play everyone

Can Apple just buy WolframAlpha and be done with these kind of problems?  Seems they need a search engine of their own and that one obviously is the one they like.  They got the cash.  Just saying.

I'm sure we'll see more of these opinion queries get redirected to Siri's "personality" system. It's even possible that same query could have changed by now as all that can be done server-side. For thing is for certain though... Siri is still Beta.

The Siri team is lucky Steve's not around anymore. He would have had them in the auditorium, asking "What's the best smartphone ever?"...

Isn't Lumia 900 just 800 with a front camera?

It might need to be the UK Siri. Switch Siri to UK.

When I asked: "what *was* the best smartphone ever," the lumia 900 came up.

When I asked: "what is the best smarphone now?", Siri answered "the one you are holding!"

Hillarious.

"reliable source of Apple News and Information"

You ARE joking right? AI is to 'reliable News and Information' as MSNBC, Fox and the NYT are to 'journalism'.

So then Siri is only relaying the data that Wolfram is feeding it. Apparently Wolfram is now accepting payment for product placement. It's time to downgrade Wolfram as a reliable & impartial data provider

easy    Just go directly to Wolfram and search for iOS ... nothing really shows up and the site asks for your email to prove interest and they take it for inclusion in the future.  Once we have a mass of requests, they will respond.  Go forth and do fellow Macophiles  !!!  less complaints - more on action..

Not a sham.  Its far more likely a few competitor phone vendor PR folks knew Siri would do a Wolfram Alpha search so they stuffed the ballot box so-to-speak. It only took a couple votes/"reviews" in an obscure, before Siri searched it, poll. I wouldn't doubt if someone who knew about the poll stuffing was behind "outing" Siri's response to a very specific question and context.

If anyone wants to change that answer they should just add iPhone 5 star reviews to that same Wolfram Alpha topic.  Blow up the ballot box stuffing with better data.
