How to underclock MBP?

Is there a way to underclock the MBP so it runs cooler (and slower)?

This is a late 2008 MPB Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz running Snow Leopard.

I appreciate your help.

Why would you want to do that? That doesn't sound safe. Unless you surround it with blankets, the heat won't be a problem.

Modern models downclock if you take out the battery.

The intent in underclocking is to reduce the heat generation, thus avoiding the excessive discomfort associated with near burns on my laps. I believe routine usage such as web browsing and emailing shouldn't heat up my laptop, thus my search for underclocking.

Wow! A MacBook Pro will not burn your lap in any event. What makes you think otherwise? Furthermore, this sort of thing is handled automatically by the computer as part of the battery extending strategy.

There's an app to underclock here, check it supports your machine model:

Your lap isn't being burnt. That's physically impossible.

Questioning the premise isn't helpful. The question at hand is how to underclock the cpu.
